Gas mpgs
Hey guys,
As you all can see gas is going up and premium is 4.64 dollars :/ this is very dark times for me because im still a student and dont have a good job yet.I cant afford a cheap daily yet. I do about 370 miles a week. Ill be putting my car back to 100% stock and I was wonderig if there is anyway possible to make evos little bit more fuel efficient

Tune was my other questins I see that 2012 evox gets 26/33 thats pretty damn good. Would this be possible on our evos on stock boost and power doesnt matter at this point
i personally dont think ur gonna get quite that good of gas mileage but it will b improved, but like i said, stay outta boost if u can, i knw its hard, the car is made to "go fast" so its really on u now lol
some lean out the partial throttle and idle. stock its set to 14.7:1 afr, i've read someone going to high 15's even in the 16's to get better gas mileage. he wrote in the other mpg thread.
u most likely cannot get those numbers that you posted.
an evo isnt really the ideal car to have for a broke student, not gonna ask how you got it but school is more important. keep in mind we all are struggling

yea its possible to get good gas mileage drive between 55-65 on the freeway. Trust me I picked up at least 7 mpg highway by driving at 65 compared to 80. Well mostly cuz my 03 5th gear at 65 isnt at 3k yet, and 80 im already at the spool up rpms for my fp red. So stay at that speed, thatll help a lot, also a lot of maximizing mpgs is your foot position on the throttle very light pushing on the throttle to where your barely at 10 inches vacuum will help a lot.
I dont see the point in owning a car that you cant enjoy, if you want better gas mileage, invest in a new VW TDI, those get ridiculous MPG. My 04 TDI gets 42mpg on the highway
The 2012 EVO X is rated 17city/23highway/19combined. Dont know where you got your numbers, but they are way wrong.
Aftermarket parts move more air in and out the engine, so to hit the same 14.7 stoich AFR during cruise and idle, the ECU has to dump more fuel to account for the additional air.

And what he says is very true. Just stay out of boost and you wont have much of a problem in gas mileage. I can rock a good 27mpg if I drive easy... but every once in a while its fun to get in boost
Don't go through all the effort and go back to stock for a very small change in mpg when you could achieve close to the same driving conservatively.
If you do the math, a few MPG difference does not add up to much coin. Honestly, if you can't afford to feed the animal..you shouldn't own it. How about the maintenance? You should be changing your oil every 2 Months @50- 60 a pop.. can you afford that? Just sayin..
