Looking into a 1997 Evo 4 in Canada
117k km, looks real clean and i'm pretty set on purchasing it.
However i want to know IF there is lots of support for aftermarket, tuning and basic upkeep, to keep it going forever? Would also like to know if upkeep is expensive.
price on it is 9300, and i would be selling me jeep from probably around 18k, and ALL of the extra money would probably go towards the evo and anything I desired.

Maintaining it will be key and if you plan to use it as your daily driver, I probably wouldn't recommend it. I know a lot of guys that had an EVO 1-3 and they had issues finding parts locally and from dealerships. You'll have to join some JDM forums around Canada and Internationally to find some sweet spots to source parts, also local JDM dealers might be able to help.
Even with my IX, I still find it quite difficult to find parts and places that know how to deal with the car. We all know these are unique beasts

The 4 is the cheapest EVO here in NZ, it's cheaper than 1s 2s and 3s.
They changed a lot when they went into that generation and they missed the mark in a few places. The biggest thing is the crank is susceptible to spinning off centre and wrecking bearings.
If you are keen on getting a 4 still and you've got options try and find one that has an engine from a newer engine, a 7 engine is a pretty good choice. Engine swaps are fairly common over here, we call them EVO 4.Xs. The X referring to the engine, 4.7 for a 4 with a 7 engine.

why, also evo 4 is the newest that can be imported from japan, i suppose a 8+ from the states would work but not sure if I can fund that.
