EGR valve gone bad

Morning EvoM,

My Evo threw some codes earlier this week related to the EGR valve. I've been experiencing some idle issues, power-loss, and louder engine noise/vibration (especially when slowing down). Do these symptoms seem to confirm that the EGR valve needs to be replaced?

Also, I am planning on taking it to the shop, but could anyone inform me on how much parts/labor could be? The EGR valve itself is around $90.00, but I'd like to know a figure including the labor.

Thanks all!

I would just remove it and change the setting in the ecu... There is a How-to Thread on here.

Are there any negative sides to removing the EGR with the STM kit? Would it require a retune?

Thanks for the help!

nope, only positives. less weight and doesn't heat up the intake manifold. and you will need to go into the ecu and turn off the periphery for the egr.

Is driving around with a bad egr valve not a good idea? It's my daily driver so if my engine is at stake then I'd rather not take any chances.

Also, will if I remove the EGR, will I be able to pass emissions?

How do they check emissions on cars where you are at?

If they just plug into your ECU, you can have a tuner do a work around. If they actually test what comes out of your tail pipe or do a vision inspection, then you better just replace the EGR.

Its probably not bad just probably popped a small vacuum hose on the back of the intake manifold .
