Hey Everyone,
I just bought a 01 Evo VII today and upon getting home and taking a good look through the engine bay I came accross something that doesn't make sense to me and was wondering if someone can please help shed some light.
The only engine mods on the car is a poddy and an tial 38mm wastegate.
With this said the following is what is worrying me:

As shown by the pics there is a loose tube from the T peice which I have no idea if it should be plumbed back somewhere or loose. The tube which the T peice is connected to runs from the turbo to the wastegate. Also shown in the first pic is a nipple from the crankhouse which has nothing connected to it, should this loose tube be plumbed onto that nipple, and or what should I connect the nipple to?
From what I can see it doesn't reach unless I move the radiator hose a bit.
Help please

Seeing as I have absolutely no idea of any boost controller being installed, would it be safe to plumb up the loose line?Originally Posted by lostsoulsevo

Not sure if its the same on the Evo VII, but see if you see something like this:

Yay to the vacuum hose, nay to the solenoid.Originally Posted by evilempire76

From looking at this - , i've gathered it really isn't a big deal if the top crankhouse ventilation nipple isn't plumbed into something. Can someone confirm whether this is the case or not?
Edit: K from further research it looks like the safest option is to block up the third line to stop the possibility of overboosting.
Can someone please just confirm that I should be doing that?
Jus to confirm. The vacuum line you had in picture goes from the compressor nipple to the wastegate? Which wastegate?
Going to need some more info. What mods does the car have? How does it have an external wastegate on a stock manifold, turbo, exhaust?
The nipple on the cover of the valve cover should be reconnected. You are going to have one messy engine bay if you don't. Also, check to see if the nipple on the intake tube was plugged.
Seems to me that you have bought a previously modded car and the owner took all the parts off without properly reconnecting everything. Shame on him.

I tend to agree with your thoughts that an old owner has modded it and removed the mods and has done a **** job of cleaning up the mess from the mods.
From a friends advice I've plumbed up the loose tube cause I think it my have been for a boost controller in the past which has been removed. Driving home (about 30km) it was driving fine and boosting at around 15-20psi, whih I take is a good sign. I'm going to take it to a mechanics this week to get their opinion on it though cause I hate having things like that in my car.
With regards to the crank case, when you say I'll get a messy engine bay do you mean just messy from the ventilation of the gases or actually engine damage? I'll try make a catch can when I get spare time but for the time being am
I running at a risk of cause damage to ye engine?
Still didn't answer my questions. If that vacuum line runs from the compressor to the wastegate then yes. Plug it up. It was most likely t'd for a boost controller. From my understanding though. With that line t'd you should only see wastegate boost. That is the boost that the spring is set for. You said that there was an external wastegate. Is this true? If so, is the stock turbo still there with the stock wastegate? There would have to be two lines to make both wastegates work.
Having the valve cover vent open will not damage your engine. Just the possibility of having some blowby and what not come out of it. Usually there is a line running from that vent on the valve cover to the intake tube. Is the intake tube capped off? Can you see if there is an open port on it or not?
