Another 100k Evo Review
I bought my evo new almost 6 years ago, the title says it was delivered with 14 miles on it. Since then it has always been a great experience.
Let's start by saying that this car is incredibly reliable in stock form. I've still yet to mod the car and my drivetrain warranty expired upon hitting 100k. No really, I know people say stock and then say oh yeah except for exhaust, intake and a tune. I mean stock. There is a drop-in K&N filter to replace the factory air filter and that is it, stock exhaust, stock tune, stock suspension, stock wheels. The car has always been STOCK. And you know what I still love it and it is still a hoot on a track and in the twisties.
Problems/Repairs:
The most trouble I have had with the car was a noise that began a bit before 15k miles. I took the car into the dealer and they changed out the BS belt and the noise went away. Shortly after, the noise was back and the car went back to the dealer. After some further trouble shooting and consulting, they decided to replace the BS belt and the timing belt and the related pulleys. I've been noise free since then.
I've experienced the very common issue of all 3 ACD lights on (car is still currently in this state)
One of the bolts on the front sway bar broke (easy fix)
One of the heat shields on the exhaust near the cat rusted through (another easy fix)
Within the last 5K-10K miles I've had my gas door popper thingamajig pop out on me multiple times and break once.(another easy fix)
Also within the last 5k-10k miles one light on the dash that lights up your odometer at night went out(another easy fix)
Six years, 100k miles and that sums up the major mechanical/electrical repairs to the car. I intend to DD this car for at least the next two years and 30k miles or so.
The most down time it has had was due to repairs from a suicidal deer.
Originals
Just to give some further insight (and hopefully I'm not jinxing myself on any of this)....
The car still has the factory installed battery
The car still has the factory spark plugs (I've pulled them, they still look good and I haven't had any experience with noticing the car not running right)
The stock brake pads lasted over 50K miles (then I discovered how fun braking can be too).
The stock rotors still have life left in them, although I do need to clean them up as I'm getting a bit of a judder so I'm sure there are some pad material deposits that need to be
The car is still on stock suspension, but I will be swapping out for a stock setup with 10K miles come the spring
Maintenance
I've always done all fluids at or around the factory recommendations, but much sooner in the case of the T-Case and rear diff (typically 9-15k miles) and the trans (usually every 15k)
90% of the time I've used OEM fluids and OEM oil filters.
I don't have a lot to compare to, but this has been the most reliable car I've owned, hopefully now that it has hit 100k it doesn't start to fall apart like my wifes old explorer did after hitting the 100k milestone.

Nice write-up. I thought I was the only person still with a bone stock Evo IX the way it was off of the showroom floor when I bought it.
I'm surprised about how long certain things lasted. I had to change my battery a few months ago (and mine is around the same age but I may only have had around 50k miles by then) and my pads were swapped out at 40k, but I think the fronts could've lasted a little longer. (I just changed them all out since the rears definitely done.)

Awesome, always good to hear of people with 100k strong and still loving the car. My car hasn't been that reliable, mostly because the previous owner was horrible to the car and because I'm brutal to it on the track... but it's still a workhorse and my favorite car I've ever owned.

very very nice, I recently purchased an all original stock evo with 169k (171k at the moment), it has a few rattles and a few dash lights are out, but everything works great. It's great to see these cars can last a good while with proper upkeep.
