Its essentially crankwalk but basically the crank has moved within the journals because of the thrust bearing wear (as it was explained to me).

It can happen with overly aggressive clutches and/or daily driving (or improperly installed clutch). I can't remember the other instances when it happens.

On a rebuild you are looking at about 4k for (short)block. Doubt the head needs any work although you may want to consider having the head worked at the same time since you're already in there (Kurt Brown head or BR head with a core is about 1700 without cams but will have dual valve springs and retainers that can handle any cam you want to throw at it). After factoring all new timing components and fluids (another 500-700), you are looking at about 6-8k if you aren't doing the work yourself (not including tuning).

The price could be cheaper depending on parts used (OEM crank VS aftermarket, OEM rods and pistons vs aftermarket ie: Stronger stuff, etc).

Thrust washers and crank walked all the way through the trigger. Motor is done. Find a replacement motor.

Agreed, IF it is crankwalk you dont want to rebuild it, you want a new one. I had crankwalk In my 7 bolt DSM and didnt listen to anybody, just rebuilt it. Got crankwalk 500 miles later and destroyed everything again. I mean it is a DSM and is the older 4G63 but i hear evo's rarely get it. Just my .02, I'd get a new motor and just swap all those bolt ons over. Unless your bawlin

Well that sucks! I have the cash for a rebuild but im not looking to put 8k into a stock motor. My clutch is/was stock as far as i know. I wont be doing any of the work myself. I rebuilt a few dsms and dont even want the headache. Being that i have to buy a new motor all together and not rebuild this one, im most likely going to off the evo. If anyone is interested lmk/pm me lol thanks for all your guys' help!

What does he think it is?

I guess we all guesstimated right on the build price.

That would Be a Build Motor That Can take Anything you throw at it. Also Build the short Block and build the head later save you some money now

Built motors blow up half as much as stock motors... Don't kid yourself. There is no such thing as an indestructible engine.

You should just find another stocker to put in at 1500-2500 depending on shortblock or longblock and go from there.

I was thinking about trying to find a short block because theres only 60k on the head right now. But i got screwed on buying the car in the first place as ive only had it 3 1/2 weeks. Im kind of nervous to buy a random short block off someone. And i wasnt saying the build isnt worth it, i was just saying im really not wanting to spend that much on just a motor! Then i still have to do clutch and tranny! Thats all! I have the cash ready to go, just trying to go the route thats best bang for buck at this point!

Fairly new (to you) Evo and this happens. Did you buy this private sale or stealership? These stories are becoming more common place. As the cars become cheaper people are buying them, getting in over their head and then selling it before there is a major problem and not telling the new owner whats wrong.

Sorry to hear this happened. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I'm on my third motor in a 2nd Evo. I feel your pain.

I bought it private. I sold my sti for it. Horrible decision on my part! Its been nothing but problems since the day i brought it home! Im not new to cars and i definitally didnt buy it for $8k lol but it is what it is. I will be having the block redone and either wait to do the head or sell it and go back to the trusty sti! Even back in the day, ive had nothing but problems with 4g63 motors. My brother has the evo x and i thought it might be fun to run evos, but i guess thats what i get for thinking! I appreciate all the help, and ill keep updated on what i find out really happened to this thing.
