Exclamation my evo quit running today.. fml. HELP.

my 03 evo started out perfectly fine this morning. my g/f drove it to work without a problem. on her way back home she noticed that as she pushed in the clutch, that the car would stall out. it didn't matter if she was sitting still or driving down the road, if that clutch went in the car shut off. closer to home it progressed into when she would shift gears it would "bog" down so to speak and act retarded for a couple seconds and then go back to normal. all thru the gears too. once she got it home it checked it out and made sure nothing obvious was out of place or wrong. gave her the 21 questions as far as did she hit anything or does she remember popping the clutch too hard, etc, etc. which she didn't. eventually after starting it and slowly pushing in the clutch we discovered that if you did it slow enough (and i mean extremely slow) that it would stay running, but while holding in the clutch it would randomly shut off. after not being able to see or figure anything out i went to move it out of the garage. started it, and pushed in the clutch to put it in reverse, and off it shut. only now it doesn't start period. just cranks and cranks. doesn't matter if my clutch is in or out. btw, i have the no clutch start. any input is greatly appreciated. thanks guys.

if check engine light came on, pull codes. if not, start with fuel pump check. if it goes deeper, and you're uncomfortable with working on the car, take it to a shop. good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I have a feeling its more than the fuel pump because when the clutch is depressed the motor has a tough time turning over. There is no CEL and I can hear my pup prime. I'm thinking the thrust bearing because when it would start and I pushed the clutch, it made a very loud squealing, almost sounded like a belt.

If you think its the thrust bearing don't try to start it again.

You sir have crank walk, or basically the thrust bearing is toast.

Sorry dude, you need an engine rebuild, that's the bad news.

Try to look at the bright side, this could be the opportunity to build that monster evo you always wanted.

good luck

Thanks for the replys. And ufortunately i cant blame it on her lol it was starting to do it before she drove it! Lol i figured with my luck it was going to be a full rebuild! I almost regret getting rid of my sti for this now!

I called buscher yesterday to get some prices but no answer. Anyone have any clue on how much (ball park price) a rebuild will cost?
