my evo quit running today.. fml. HELP.
dude, stop trying to start it... lol drain your oil, pull your oil pan, and observe the damage, it is a safe easy way to see if there is anything going on.. get under it have the wife push the clutch if you can watch the crank move any significant amount then your thrust bearings are shot, you may find them in the oil pan when you pull it..

I havent tried to start it nor will i try! The last time i tried was right after it died the last time! Im out of town for tonight but i will pull it tomorow and update as i know! Thanks guys!
Pulling the pan is honestly the best (safest) fool proof way of finding out the root problem.. you aren't out anything by checking this, it sure has all the symptoms of a thrust bearing.. keep us posted...
Got a call from mitsu today. They said that the crank pos sensor is not communicating with the ecu at all. Also that they drained a small amount of oil and it was metallic. They said my cam shaft lobes looks like someone held sandpaper on them while it was running. He said that In his opinion I need a completely new motor. But they can't find any crate motors as mitsu does not even make them for the evo8 anymore. I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point now. He doesn't have a price on anything from rebuild to a new motor. I'm really thinking they are just pulling me around because they did a 2 hour diagnostic and didn't even pull the oil pan to check end play or bearings or anything. He said the only thing the check was electrical. FML
That's because they will do take off and replace every belt. Timeing and serpentine. When's the dealer does timing they also use a new timing tensioner. And everything is OEM prices as well

Take it to a reputable speed shop. I know too many mechanics at dealership shops to know this is not going to end good for you unless you know a service advisor there.
I don't know how they can make that assumption with out pulling the oil pan or taking the head off.
If you have no holes in the block and the cylinder walls are ok the most you would need at BEST is a new crank and (maybe) rods/pistons (since you are in there anyways might as well replace it with stronger stuff), and cams if they truly are damaged.
Thing is this is all speculation. You need someone who has experience rebuilding these cars to tell you what the most cost effective thing to do going forward is. The dealership is going to charge you over the counter OEM prices and at least 100/hr shop rate.
Then they are going to use all-data to calculate how much it costs, regardless of how much time it actually took the tech (as an example if All-Data says that to pull a motor and re-install is 20 hours then you already into them for 2000 and thats before parts or labor for anything else like seperating the head, re-installing cams, etc) even if it only takes them 10 hours. Then if something goes wrong you will have a helluva time having them fix it on their dime. Dealerships are not in the business of building cars. They make their money off the servicing of them.
You my friend need someone to build your car.

Its like the apple store. The geniuses at the Genius bar don't fix the iOS devices, they restore the software or replace them with a refurbished one. They don't replace screens or logic boards.
Dealerships are exactly the same way.
You'd be surprised how much mitsubishi dealerships don't have "qualified" mechanics for Evo's.
Reminds me of Mazda dealerships and the RX-7's. Or Acura and the NSX's.

does not make the 4g63 for the EVO VIII (I.E no mivec cams)But technically your mechanic is an idiot because
does make the 4g63 for the EVO IX (I.e. mivec cam goodness). All you need is a new crate motor from the dealer, EVO 9 ECU and engine bay wiring harness. It's been done on here before I would suggest doing a search.
Otherwise just bring it to buschur and have him build a, oh I don't know, stock engine perhaps? At least then you can get a new engine knowing that you have quality work done.
