Steering loose - Normal?

Guys,

I only have 140 miles on my Evo and it seems every since I bought it I can feel some looseness in the steering. Not in the actual steering process as this is tight as can be. But rather I can feel a slight vibration over very low frequency bumps like a sudden reflector in road or a good line divide where its like the steering rod has a 1000th of an inch of play up and down. I can hear and sense it but cannot feel the wheel itself playing any at all.

I have not driven other ones to see if this is there but it wouldn't shock me as the steering has to have some play somewhere (especially with rally design origins). Is this normal?

Mine has this a little too...it will actually vibrate a little on real low RPM starts. Its kind of a mechanical feel that I can't decide if I actually like...

you should try getting an alignment first before deciding it's mechanical...

I aligned my EVO just after I got it.

Why did you align it? And did you feel this before you aligned it and it went away after?

Mine shakes like Muhhamad Ali when idling. You can always see it shaking hard at idle. Dealer told me this was normal. My clutch pedal also shakes hard.

Its not steering wheel shake. In fact, what I can feel is more internal to the steering linkage. Its like I can feel a very slight amount of play over certain sharp bumps. Again, the play isn't from left to right and there is no slop in steering or movment in the wheel or column. Its just felt through the steerting wheel and kind of heard by me.

it's normal. wheels and steering linkage follow every groove on a road.
if you are looking for a left lane bomber with an unflappable directional stability of a bimmer you got a wrong car.
