Which evoscan cable to get?
Which evoscan cable to get?
Not sure if this is in the right section, but looking to pick up an evoscan cable to tune my 03 evolution VIII. There is an Evoscan 1.3r for $97 and a Evoscan 1.3u for $137. Cant find out which one to get. If anyone has any experience with either please let me know. Thanks
You want the 1.3U if you want to flash using ECUflash but the 1.3R will work for flashing if you do it through Evoscan.

Have you looked into the OpenPort 2.0?
It will flash and also log full time after you set up the logcfg.txt file. I use Eculflash to flash with it and evoscan to log, it is great.
I recommend you get a obd2 extension cable as well.

So if I get the openport 2.0 Itll flash and log without the white connector you can buy from evoscan?
The one I bought came with the openport and all the flash connectors for Subis and Mitsus. I use an odb2 extension cable to run the op2 to the glove box and leave the flash connector plugged up all the time. The extension cable also keeps you from damaging the obd2 connector under the dash from accidental hits and plugging the devices in and out all the time, it is much better to damage the extension cable than your main harness connector. You can configure the op2 to stand alone log which is nice or you can plug it into a laptop and log from that. I drive everyday with it stand alone logging and plug it into my tablet when tuning. Evoscan and Ecuflash just upgraded the software and drivers for the op2 and it works beautifully. Additionally, I do not believe that the softwares are supporting the older cables with future upgrades from what I have read. You should also be aware that some cables require additional licensing to work with the flashing software whereas the op2 has it built in.
I did a lot of reading and resesarch when I was looking into the cables when I started, and if I did it all over again I would still buy the op2.
IMHO, I would stop wasting time on researching cables. Get the OP2 and start focusing on learning about tuning and logging. The tuning is the most important. Do a search here and on google for Merlin's tuning guide and it will help you get a good start. Start small and log, log, log. Read the logs and it will all come together.
I used to get tunes for my cars and paid lots of money for essentially WOT tunes. Now I see what they did compared to the full tune I am able to apply and the car is 10X better and stronger at all times not just just wide open. Some good examples on evom is the thread called Let me see your fully tuned ignition maps. Good luck and dont blow your car up.
