You're going to have to pass the obd-2 checks for emissions.

OBDII check is not the same as SMOG. It basically is plug into the OBDII port check for CEL, it's much easier than SMOG. Do they put a sniffer in the exhaust pipe?

Just the obd-2. You still have to pass the visual inspections for things like dash lights, brake pads, tire wear for the safety inspection, but for emissions it's just the obd-2 checks.

No, they don't put a sniffer in the exhaust. Well, not for his year car. They used to for much older cars (pre-96) but I don't know if that's even still done.

I hope you are moving there for military purposes because they are D-BAGS! You should only have to do obd2 check, no sniffer, easy to pass as long as you don't have a CEL. I don't remember if visual check was absolute necessary.

I believe it's only here in northern va that there is emissions testing. Counties south of here only have the visual inspection. I'm not sure about the va beach area though. There is no sniffer they just plug into the car and check for cells and they make sure your emissions equipment is working. The visual inspection consists of a brake check, tire check, lights, signals, and catalytic converter. Inspection is every year and emissions is every two if you pay a little extra(well worth it). VA is a great state but its tough for car guys. There are cops EVERYWHERE!!! Hope this helps and welcome to VA.

Just stating. There are a lot of shady guys in VA. If you meet enough people, you will find those that have hook ups to pass inspection without an inspection. Lived in VA beach from 2002-2007 for Navy.

You won't have any issues with parts. We aren't as bad as California. Well, except for exhausts, any coffee can muffler will get you a ticket.
