what motor do i have?

I joined here a while back looking for a motor for my 03 evo. I finally found one at a shop about an hour away. They sell only motors/transmissions torn out of cars.
they showed me the motor and everything looked perfect identical to the motor i pulled out. I didn't even think to check numbers on it.

After I bought it, it sat for a few months before I started messing with it, figured I would do the water pump and timing belt while it was out and easy to move around. But the water pump is actually bigger than the one I had ordered for an evo 8.

I had found a list of engine stamps somewhere in this site but it doesn't show the numbers stamped on this motor. They are GD 8387
What motor is this and will it work? everything looks right on it...

Any help would really be appreciated

Do you have any pictures of the engine? There should also be a stamp on the block somewhere that will say 4g63

Yep, get the VIN off the bellhousing area just below where the head meets the block. The number you posted is just a serial number and you can't do a reverse-look up on them. You need the VIN.

Are we sure you just didn't get the wrong waterpump? Do you have a part number for the pump? Just ruling out the obvious sometimes these things happen.

If it says 4g63 it is an evo motor and you're all good. probably wrong oil pump

Is there anyway that you could post a picture of the engine itself? the first question i would have, assuming you got a long block, is what does the valve cover look like? every other 4g63 has a different valve cover from our evos. That would be a big tell tale sign. If you bought a short block, then you will have to locate a vin
