2006 Evo 9 MR steering wheel vibration

So whenever I get on the highway and hit about 70 i start getting a pretty bad steering wheel vibration that comes in and out every two seconds or so. Noticeable vibration to where the passenger can see the wheel vibrate and its in a pattern every two seconds just about it vibrates then it stops for about another two seconds then fades back in again. Any ideas? i only have about 40k miles on the car quite annoying seeing its still a baby.

Out of balance wheels, loose lugnuts, or alignment would be my guess.

Out of balance wheels or loose lugnuts typically wont come and go like you described. They will just shake like sh*t constantly. Sounds more driveline related. Has anything been done to the car recently and now you're noticing this? Or has it just come up out of the blue all of a sudden?

Tough for me to say without driving the car to feel it first hand. Sometimes a shifted belt in a tire can cause this. Or maybe a bent rim (unlikely though). You haven't hit anything recently have you? May need to get a qualified tech to ride with you so you can duplicate it and have them evaluate it as well. I have seen inner cv joints do this as well. Hard to narrow it down over the internet. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.
