Can anyone shed some light to my problem?
I drive a Lancer Evo 8 US ver w/o the ACD/AYC. I have steering issues, I cant seem to find what the problem is or whats causing it. I tried having the tires balanced, got it aligned as well and the camber was even in all wheels. The problem is whenever I am driving it, i have to hold on to the steering wheel because if I let it go it will turn slowly to the right, usually when we let go it just goes straight right? Well execpt when the road is uneven, but even or uneven it turns right slowly, this happens at any speed I am running the car with. I find this extremely dangerous. Any suggestions or ideas what could be causing this will really be helpful. Thanks!
its an alignment issue--- the slight pull to the rt is a safety setting, a lot of shops set them up this way-so if you pass out you dont go into on coming traffic-- have it realigned.
Rear toe/chamber throw off an angle called thrust angle... Its the way you car pushes while driving straight... If its more then a few hundreths off center it will walk... So if your rear left toe is -1* and
Your rear right toe is -1.5 it will cause a an offset thrust angle of like .05... This will push your front end to the right softly but noticably...
It can also be front caster... 99% of shops wont set caster... But if your left tire is set pos and your right tire is less pos or lower it will walk to the right...
When you align a car its best to do a 4 wheel alignment... If not you can do something called wintoe where a computer calculates thrust angle and adjusts your steering wheel straight ... In reality you drive sideways but you correct by turning the wheel straight ahead so it feels like your alignment is right. Its the easy way to do an alignment. Anytime you pay 30-40bucks this is what shps do. The high end 80-100 dollar alingments are typically 4 wheel but like i said they usually dont touch caster...
Number are purely for demonstration and may not reflect actual angles...
