Personally, what annoys me, is that a lot of people who own and drive a Subaru STI will not admit that it is less performant than the Evo (note I said performant as in faster around a track or rally stage, I did not say powerful: some STIs have 280bhp as standard, just like an Evo).

I have no idea why that is; I therefore consider it to be down to lack of cognition and like to pick on it / joke about it.

An STI is obviously a very good car, only slightly less good than an Evo. But it is less raw: the suspension is softer, the brakes fade earlier, it understeers much more and also looks softer I find. The gear command is very imprecise. The best gearbox commands I have experienced from the precision and shifting / locking are the Evo and the Honda Civic Type R.

Personally wut annoys me is that Mitsubishi USA is full of crap and some of u guys don't admit it. Until they see Subaru brought WRX into US they never mention any thing about EVO like EVO was from somewhere else in the universe.

When Subaru is fighting for the US sports compact car market for over 2 years the Mitsu still hesitate to bring the real EVO to US (full version or detuned). We end up having the "rally inspired" LanOZ crap (Inspire my a*s, this car is a big joke)

Let’s be fair here, Evo is an excellent sports car. It's technically more advanced then Sti (AYC, hollow cam shift). On the track, the Evo is considerably faster then sti, off road they are about the same.

All you people make me laugh, 85% plus of the people on this board have never even touched an Evo or STi in their lives, and they're actually comparing the 2 And I bet ya most of these people have no idea about racing either. Personally, both the Evo and the STi interests me, I do like the STi look better, but that plays a small factor, but no way I would commit to anything until the cars are actually here!!! Magazine racers, please...

The problem I have is not knowing what the US versions of either are going to be like. To be fair, there was a limited run of STi's in Japan last year that would eat most Evo's alive, including the 6 and 7. But then there's the FQ-300 Evo 7, which makes most Ferrari drivers look up and say, "Don't hurt me!" However, there's the automatic Evo 7 GT-A, which would have a hard time keeping up with a base WRX.

There has been so much variety and change in these cars that it's hard to know what we'll be getting. Subaru has already said that they'll one up the US Evo with their STi, but since Mitsubishi still hasn't released hard facts about the US Evo (with, what, 64 days remaining?) we can only speculate. And dream.....

But here are the generalities I've gathered on the ones available in the UK: The Evo is a no-holds barred speed machine. Very rough, very unforgiving, but very intense! The STi is still a very fast car, but gives up some speed and handling for a not so white-knuckled ride. Looks? Let's be realistic, they're both ugly!

And I agree with the statement made earlier. Subaru took a big chance bringing over their WRX. They put they're butt on the line, and it paid off. Now we'll finally get to see some of these cars we've only dreamed about, cruising American streets!

And for what it's worth, I'd rather have either of them than a Mustang or Vette sitting in my driveway. It's a good time to be an import car lover!

Oh, absolutly! For those in the know, the sight of that oversized wing spoiler and vented hood coming at ya makes you break out in a cold sweat, either from fear, or from insane awe!

Unfortunatly, for those who don't follow WRC, or 99.99% of the American population, it just looks like a compact that some ricer Honda boys got a hold of.

But that can work as well. I can't wait to see the look on the Vette owner's face when the light turns green and all he see's is that HUGE *** spoiler heading for the horizon. "Oh no, my $50,000 penile extension device was beat by a Japanese compact!" HA HA HAA!!! You know it! With half as many cylinders, no less!! AH HAAA HA..... hmm, I've got problems.

I dunno, but each day I begin to appreciate the STi more and more. Check out some of the amazing engine improvements. Run this link through Babelfish and you'll get a good idea of how different the redesigned STi is compared to the bug eye version, both engine and suspension wise.

Why don't we actually wait til the US versions come out? See what others think about both cars and test drive them. Works a hell of a lot better than speculating.
