So far, we've got exactly 1 timeslip from 1 production Evo owner, with only one run that anywhere near the time under contention. And the Evo has been out long enough that, if it was a consistent 13.1 second quarter mile beast, people would have proved it by now.
Cheers,
Paul Hansen
This seems weird. Don't magazines have to average their 1/4 mile runs and run both sides of the track they are on as well? I guess it seems weird that they extract such a great number out of the Evo, but potentially lack w/ the Sti. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Sti owners do. Either way, they're both great cars... let the war begin

European 2.0L STis with the 300 hp/300 lb ft performance package get around 4.6 sec 0-60 times, so the US model's numbers seem reasonable. The EVO numbers seem way too good.

If these numbers are the actual numbers published in Motortrend, then who cares if they are wrong or ringers or petite drivers or dumb luck?
The whole Motortrend readership is going to believe the EVO is quicker than the STI. (even if it isn't). And all our homies that can read will be now spout "Yo...... da EVO is quicker 'cause Motortrend showed da numbers... " Even if it isn't! Na na na na!!!

Sure, then Joe Public who is not Motortrend and does not get a ringer when he buys an EVO, is gonna get spanked by the first STi he sees. He's gonna have to mod his brand new EVO and void his warranty just to get up to where
told him his car could do stock.

Don't blame Motortrend for the ringer, it's Mitsubishi who's pulling the false advertising here, and I can't believe it doesn't bother people that their hard earned EVO is gonna be 40 hp slower than Motortrend's ringer.
R&T is always slow in their performance tests, I don't think they push the cars as hard.
