I picked up the newest issues of CAR, EVO, and Top Gear, and the EVO out performed the STI every time (Yes, it was the Euro EVO VIII w/ Yaw control).
They said both cars were outstanding, but picked the EVO as their top choice. I like them both.

I'm going to have to call ringer on this one. There is no way my EVO could pull a 13 flat. My buddy who has a 13 sec flat TT Supra waxes my *** on a consistent basis and his Supra runs 13 flats all day long, and I've been drag racing for 5 years. I love my EVO but i don't think I could ever pull that time.
... This is about an article on STi vs EVO and what it had to say.. They have statistics and what not so why is it so lame to compare what a respectible UK Magazine review on each had to say? This isn't just another "EVO pwns STi" or vice versa.
UGH!!! Everybody is missing the point. It has nothing to do with EVO v STI (well, maybe a little). I'm *****ing about people *****ing about the fact that the US EVO didn't ship with ACD or AYC.
Don't forget about something else the JDM/Euro EVO 8 has. A 6 speed. And a whole bunch of articles I've read have mentioned more about having the 6 speed and having torque down lower and better gearing for mid range punch. That is what will help the EVO against the STI. What really bums me is no blue color in europe or japan. Really rained on my plans.
Those guys at NASIOC are so touchy right now....
Worse than my girlfriend at that time of the month.
They didnt like it much when I suggested the 6sp was slowing the STI down in the 1/4.

Remember. Internet rumor does not equal real world fact. Repeated rumors turn into fact very quickly on internet messageboards.
The rumor created by Vishnu that the Evo's in the US testing fleet are ringers, is just that, a rumor. He also said that he wanted to take a close look at the car, and talk to Mitsu, to see what mecahnically was different about it from a regular US spec Evo.
We never heard anything from him that outlined any physical differences.
The opinion that the Evo numbers recorded seem too fast, doesn't mean the Evo is a ringer. Car magazines do lots of things to the numbers they get while testing. It's not a "from the stop watch read-out to magazine print" affair. They apply corrrective calculations to normalize their readings in many cases.
Cars behave differently after they are fully broken in. Some can garner better numbers after they have been run for a few k miles than they could when fresh from the factory. Some can gain a few tenths 0-60 if tested at 25k miles vs 500 miles.
Gas quality is different from regon to region. The performance of some cars are effected by this more than others. Turboed cars in particular are effected by this greatly. And how far do the manufacturers go in their ECU programming to account for this variation...
So as it stands the "ringer" Evo is still just a rumor. Please do not repeat it as fact until someone empirically proves that there is a mechanical difference between the press cars and the cars you and I can get at the dealerships.
