For a few extra grand i think that the STi is a better car. More power, speed, 1/4 mile time and i just love that power bulge. Even Top Gear picked the STi over the Evo.

Van Boertel has a unique pricing strategy that allows them to do that in a small city like Rochester (I'm originaly from Webster). I can only hope that they open a Mitsu dealer soon...

The EVO's available sunroof will sell alot of cars over the STi. I would likely have bought an STi if it had a sunroof option (well, and maybe better seats...) The EVO also simply fits the "big" American frame alot better than the smaller interior of the Sube.

both Subaru and Mitsubishi will probably sell every STi/Evo that they import. Yeah, there are a few of both on dealer lots - but they don't sit long assuming the dealer isn't trying to hold out for huge cash...

I think that the price gouging by Mitsubishi Dealerships is disgusting, but that's how it works for a car that they view as "limited". They'll find out when next years Evo comes that they can't afford to gouge anymore because there's too many around and the supply is more than the demand for a marked up vehicle.

As for the STI well I think subaru can go %$@! itself. Right of the bat it looks like a $20,000 car, not a $30,000 car. The FMIC would have added to its looks but no they had to mount it on the engine, which will cost a lot of money for tuners everytime they mod the engine the intercooler will have to be taken off.

I'm not going to get into specifics, but from everything I've read about the STI v. Evo showdown the STI is the faster 1/4 car, but the Evo is better all-around. And unlike Vin Diesel "i don't live my life a 1/4 mile at a time".....i have work, school, and stuff to do, I'd rather have a well-rounded car that has the potential to whoop the STI in the 1/4 with the right mods and is still a suitable autox, rally car with the comforts...than a car thats faster stock and performs poorer than the Evo in other areas.

Finally, I think the Subaru is over-priced. In Canada they said they'd sell it in the low-40's the MSRP ended up being $46k. All said an done after taxes your probably looking at over $50k. And to me an STI just isn't worth half of 100 grand. So the lies and the price turned me right off.

I'll be honest I wanted an STI when I heard about them when they debut, but the price, shortfalls have turned me right off of them, that and the fact that I'd rather wait for Canada to have the Evo 8 and see it priced in the Mid-high 30's than pay $50,000 for something that looks like it's worth less.

I am just curious... how many times have you rallyed your car? I hate when people talk about their cars as "rally cars". I mean, yes, these cars do rally but I dont think any owner is going to rally these beautiful cars. That job is left to the pros that only care about winning and not whether their $30k car is going to get a dent in it.

Well I own a OZ Lancer for starters, so Rallying that is out of the question, as nothing short of an AWD car IMO is suitable for rallying.

2nd the Evolution 8 isn't available in Canada, so purchasing one to use is not a possibility.

Finally If I owned an Evo 8, yes I would rally it after I built it up to compete.

Maybe no one would consider Rallying there Evo 8 right now, less than a year after they bought it, but what about 2-3 yrs down the road, when they have considerable mods, rollcage etc and the car isn't as nicely painted as it was off the lot? Then you'll see Evo 8's out rallying for sure.

other than straight line performance the STI has nothing on the evo, handling breaking? and what POWER BULDGE do you need, the hood scoop, because other wise it is identical to a reg WRX is terms of body panels

I like the STi, one of these days I'd like to own one - just not right now. I'd swap the rear trunk for one from a 2.5RS, put in an FMIC and swap on a 2.5RS hood, scrape off the logos, spraypaint the brakes dull gray, and put some drab painted wheels on it and get the whole car painted charcoal gray.

The car would be an incredibly SLEEPER daily driver. You just can't do that with an EVO, even removing the spoiler and taillights, it's still clearly an EVO.

But I'm not going to do that to a brand new 32+K MSRP car. I'll wait till it's 4 years old, then maybe I'll do it

Theres some talk about the internals used in the US STI not being up to the task of a build up. I guess Subaru got cheap on the internal of the STI.

If you ask me Subaru got cheap when building the STI period. No stereo or a/c, crap internals, TMIC instead of the more expensive FMIC, Ugly rims and a $20,000 car look.

Anyone see that post where a company offers a kit to make a Kia Rio look like an Impreza......you know Subaru skimped in the style department when a Kia easily looks like a Subaru.

The STI isn't worth the money for a slightly faster, not as well rounded, not styled as nice and with IMO a poorer mechanical/turbo set up.

As usual, let's get back to the original question. There will be more Evo's, than STi's produced each year, so logically more evo's will be sold, probably all of them on the lots, though prices may come down to accomplish this. However, all Sti's will be sold at least for the first year or two. Subaru dealers are all taking different routes on how they plan on selling, so a wise buyer that does his homework will be able to buy at MSRP, unless the buyer is impatient.
As far as the price, both cars are within $2k of each other assuming you buy at MSRP. Paying extra to get the car now is your own fault. Evo owners want to make a big deal out of no STi radio. The Evo also has an auto I/C spray and nice performance seats. However, for the 2 grand more for the STi you get seats that are height adjustable, which adds to overall interior room if moved to accomodate others. Let's not forget the STi has side impact air bags, which makes up the $2K difference right there. Add semi auto a/c, air filtration, shift buzzer/light, outside air temp, and cruise control, and the STi is clearly the best bang for the buck.
Now for magazine racers. Yes British mags picked STi. US mags.

AUTOMOBILE raved on STi, compared to harsh Evo but seemed to favor it in the end with some kind of knife comparo.
MT did no comparo
R&T unanimously picked the STi among its editors, STi won the performance points comparo, but Evo won overall based only on price (which we decided above really goes to STi).
C&D overwhelmingly picked Evo(suspiciously?)
SCC again raved about STi where it beat the Evo in all acceleration tests, and beat Evo on the same track where C&D couldn't manage to. But despite Evo being overall slower in every area, the editors picked the Evo based on "feel". WHATEVER!

ps. for that post about STi internals, that along with so much else posted, is just so ignorant it's almost funny.

There's a nice easy answer to any Evo -vs- STi comparison.. to each his own.. Everyone has criteria that they use to choose a car.. and everyone is going to have a slightly different opinion of each.. Get over it. Its not very important.. a few people will rally, a few will autoX, a few will drag race, and many will street race.. given any particular circumstance in any of these types of competition, EITHER can come out ahead.. It all comes down to modification, drivers, driving conditions, etc.. This is getting really old..
