They said to hit 60 you have to shift into third gear. They also gave the evo the edge. I love it!!!!!!!!
Ya know, the Evo and the STi are so close, in a 1/4-mile race, stock vs. stock, it comes down to the driver.

I think Subaru knew that bringing a US spec STI here would have made it VERY inferior to the EVO, which is why they had to increase the displacemen to 2.5. Honestly, the STI would have been beaten in all performance categories(we already know the EVO owns the handling department, looks, and they are not really faster than our 2.0L either) and nobody would have preferred the STI aside from scooby fanatics. The only downside to this EVO vs. STI frenzy to me is the 6 speed tranny. Other than that, its the EVO all the way. I will jump on a factory option 6 speed tranny in a heartbeat (Also all the SAYC and ACD "stuff").

STI

I'd like front and rear LSDs and a ACD. Hell they could keep the power windows, A/C, ABS and air bags if it means getting the other stuff and keeping the price down.

to me theyre both the same car. its just mostly looks on deciding which one youd rather be seen in. when i first the the new evo 8 i thought, OMG, what have they done to it, it looks like hell! but maybe i was use to the big fog lights and more aggressive front end. but i love it now! the STI on the other hand is...well...the front end looks like ****. the lines on it dont make any sense. like the one that sweeps from under the headlight up onto the hood. huh?!?! gay. the lights totally suck now. i love how they had a huge hissy fit kus the lights were round and now they look even worse. if i EVER had enough money to buy either, id look @ em as the same car, with the same performance..but one slight differance. the EVO is a few grand cheaper.

All I know is.... my friends used to challenge my decision and reasoning behind choosing the Evo over the Sti.....

Now that both cars are available in the US, and the mags have pitted them against each other....no one questions my decision.

I've been following STI developments, but I haven't seen anyone posting a dyno plot with 350 to 370hp on it.

Who has done this? I'd like to see the info!

Also, I'm assuming most STi owners will upgrade to front mounts. The price range for upgraded Evo FMIC are between 800 and 1300. That's the same relative ballpark as WRX front mounts.

I think it all comes down to taste. I like the Evo. I'm lukewarm towards the Sti. Others like the Sti. And basically, driver matters more than any other performance part we will ever install.

Trollski: Go back to Nasioc or wherever you've come from. Or agree to meet some of these guys at the track (Jedi, 2Cool, WRC4EVR, etc.). That's where it matters anyway, not on some silly forum.
Having a TMIC (top mont) has a lot of disavantages (ie heat stroke, Not enough air hittig the intercooler at hi speeds (85+))
To do a FMIC on a WRX or STI, the owner would need to cut or replace the factory bumper beem. Witch is not ideal just incase you got into a head on. Plus the factory plastic needs to be cut to fit the FMIC. I have installed a few in the last year Greddy, Blitz, TXS hiperflow, and APS. Then you will need to run a intake witch would mean a custom dyno tune to smooth out the a/fs.

With the EVO I'm sure we will have a lot of options Like AMS and Pruven in having a After market stock location fitting intercoolers.

If you knew ANYTHING about WRC you'd understand why Subaru put the intercooler up there..

DIRT...

Have you been watching the WRC at all? have you noticed how much DIRT there is? having the FMIC looks cute or whatever (ricer) but one hit from a rock or clogged with dirt, and you're either sucking dirt IN to the engine, VIA that "cute" FMIC, or you're losing boost through the nice crack or hole....

It's a very good design, utilized by subaru for the WRC, and passed on to us, the complaining, looks-oriented, market.

Funny, Subaru's WRC cars don't seem to agree with you (or Subaru, according to you). Look closely. They use a front mounted intercooler.

Besides, if dirt and rocks were that much of a concern, they would top-mount their radiators. Raidators are much more mission-critical than intercoolers.

Remember that all the things that spit up dirt and rocks on a rally car are located behind the radiator and FMIC. You know, those round things that are covered in rubber? What are they called again? And generally you don't follow another car on a rally too closely.

Generally the argument of STi vs Evo boils down to the same thing: 300hp vs 271 hp. Simple solution: put $2300 into your car (about the same as the STi price difference plus the installed cost of a stereo system) like I did and make a lot more power. Very easy, Daniel-san.

I can't belive all the bs i'm hearing.

From edmunds the market value of evo's is about $1000 over and STi is sold at MSRP. If your pay over 1K over for the evo I guess it's about the same price.

Personally after driving both I like the evo better because of the more direct steering. The STi seem soft. Perhaps it's the spring rate? Nothing that can't be fixed.

You can't go wrong with either but the steering favors to my liking to the evo.
