Evo vs. STI | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
Saw my first Sti in balck with silver wheels. OK I may sound bias but no way man its ugly I was one of those guys that I want a Sti but that was before I saw the Evo and learned about it yea stock the Sti may have more HP but that is easy to make up and fun to do. I have not sat in a Sti but if they are like WRX's they are cramped I am 6' and my evo is roomy I love my Evo I think it's cool that these cars are finally coming here. What's next? GT-R 32?

Funny, Subaru's WRC cars don't seem to agree with you (or Subaru, according to you). Look closely. They use a front mounted intercooler.
Besides, if dirt and rocks were that much of a concern, they would top-mount their radiators.
Raidators are much more mission-critical than intercoolers.
Remember that all the things that spit up dirt and rocks on a rally car are located behind the radiator and FMIC. You know, those round things that are covered in rubber? What are they called again?
And generally you don't follow another car on a rally too closely.

you're right..
but you notice it's not mounted down low right?
it is possible for rocks to get caught by the front bumper and flung into the radiator.. as proven in this year's Cypress rally..
I like the looks of the STI in person but don't like its limited potential. In actuality they tweaked a 2.5 to compete with the Evo with 300 hp etc. I bet if the Evo would of came out with 250 the Sti would of came out with 280 w/o all the detonation problems. Evos engine and tranny are proven winners the Stis in ? Sti needs a bigger turbo as the stock one is nearly tapped out with stock HP. Injectors etc. Remember 2nd gen Eclipse were slightly more responsive stock but 1st gens were a wolf in sheeps clothing. Both great cars stock and i hope detonation problem is rectified for Suby owners. I wish i could have one of each and a Cobra,zo6 to name a few. Suby a better commuter and Evo more race potential. OUT!
Both cars are great with Evo having more overall potential. Godspeed from clubwrx forum made reference to small turbo, injectors etc. Will be selling when Evo 6 speed comes his way. Says more potential.guys on the forum couldn't believe their ears and questioned this tuners unbiased opinion. Keep it stock buy the STI and hope it doesn't detonate. Get the Evo for modifiability and a proven motor and handling.

Plus it's just a bunch of ******* anyway.
With dealers starting to offer Evos for $500 or even $1000 under MSRP it makes the STI look less attractive. With the dealership in TN asking invoice plus $500 and no destination charge it makes the STI look over priced again. Good luck getting an STI for MSRP in Maryland cause every dealership near me won't even discuss pricing until they run your credit and you fill out the paperwork to buy the car. Van Bortel in Victor NY is one of the few who sells for MSRP.
Ask any real WRX/STI tuner and they will tell u the weakest link in the Subaru is the transmission. Who cares for their 6 speed tranny. But having said that EVO clutches are pretty weak too.
Every mag from car to top gear etc..... (all non-american mags mind you) I have read that compared the new STI with the JDM EVO 8 say at the end of the day, they will take the EVO home. Just my 2 cents.

Both Great cars.
My choise EVO because it feels like a Ferrari and it's intercooler is in front of the car instead of on top of a hot motor.
Plus I have a WRX need somthing diffrant..

There is no problem with the STi tranny.
The clutch is the weak link on the EVO and WRX.
If we're talking about the regular WRX 5spd then yes. A old STI 5 speed will hold up alot better but its still not as strong as the 6spd STI transmission. However I do have some pics of a friends blown Evo3 transmission if anybody wants to see them.
