NASIOC, and I-Club have threads about the STi bug, which, in a nutshell, is that the ECU tends to knock or throw a CEL after some mods. Alignment may be off from factory on some also. THAT'S IT!
Don't let these Evo guys snow you. Subaru has always owned Mitsu in LONG TERM reliability, and will continue to. If mods are added to the STi, you can bet that not only will the many tuner ECU's that are being worked out fix all, but also, the STi will reward you far more than the Evo.
The STi handles the real road better, is faster, and has a drivetrain that's ahead of Evo, so the car is far more versatile. Yes, there is no radio, or auto I/C spray mode. It's sad that that's the worst the STi haters can come up with.
Besides cruise control, Evo is missing semi-auto A/C, air filtration, shift light/ buzzer, outside air temp. guage, SIDE IMPACT AIR BAGS, c'mon, and oh yeah, .5L and 6spd. STi gives you all that for less than $2K. On a car with limited production, which just adds to its value.
However, if you need a small, skinny steering wheel, a great seat (for racing) standard, or the ability to pull .03 more g's, or do the slalom 1mph faster (only on smooth tracks), in a car that "feels" quicker, (despite being bigger, and with a wider turning radius). Or you need to mod right now, than the Evo may be for you. But out of the box, the STi rules!

I am appreciating all the great feedback. The local Dealer has 5 more cars coming in, colors unknown. Yellow is my favorite Evo color but maybe a little Kid-like for a 46 year old - Me?

You can't win with everyone. Regardless of the color, someone will think that you're a bit juvenile to be driving that car. You've worked hard all those years, I say get what you want and to Hell with the naysayers!

In higher speeds, does the STi lose in that category? Just wondering. Thx

Learned something new on price. The company I work for has a "perk" where we get a discount on Chrysler and Mitsubishi vehicles. An affiliate/vendor program. Just priced out an Evo through the program and my price is $26,875 if I order one, and $27,642 if taken from an existing inventory. This quote was without a sunroof. Still, not bad. No discounts on STI.

Not sure if you mean top speed or not..but the Evo has a higher top speed by about 10mph.

That's it? What about the detonation that may be in about 25% of the Sti's. The fix for that would be a less aggressive mapping of the ecu meaning a loss in power. Also, in the past Subarus may have been more reliable. But that has nothing to do with either of these cars. The Japanese made Evo has always been known to be more reliable than dsm offerings were here in the states. The Sti has never been offered in a 2.5...so no one knows how reliable it is. The initial problems certainly aren't promising. The detonation will also destroy some motors if it's not fixed soon.

Wow... the EVO VIII FQ-300 is faster than a Murcielago around the track??

Oh and BTW... that STi they were using doesn't have a front diff or DCCD like the ones in the states here either, so it should have quite a bit more understeer. It also has the 2.0L as opposed to the 2.5L here.

1.2 sec difference... pretty close

EDIT: I liked the part about the "Mitsubishi DidYouSpillMyPint? and the Subaru YouOutsideNOW."

Last time I checked the STi gets to 130mph either 4 or 7 seconds faster then the EVO, is that's what you're asking. Factory top speed limit, the EVO is like 7 or 10 miles higher then the STi, but keep in mind that the STi's top speed is electronically limited, meaning a chip would fix that. The EVO on the other hand, the top speed is mechanically limited, meaning not much you can do besides a tranny replacement.

The FQ-300 has a 6 speed, 300 HP, AYC, exhaust, different ECU program and I think different exhaust lift.

Mitsu's answer to the STI.

Still -

It is limited for a reason.
The hoodscoop and wing would become victims to the wind.
j/k for all you Subaru loyalists You can also raise the rev limit on the Evo if you wanted...which is done with thw Works ecu and in turn would produce an even higher top speed. IMO 156mph is PLENTY fast though. There is no need to go even close to that on public roads.
