The hood, the stupid pink badging, the scoop looks like it came from Robocop, the rear wing looks like it was designed by a two year old, the blue interior doesn't even match rally blue, the seats suck compared to the seats used in the WRX and STI in the rest of the world and the interior has that cheap feel to it. However the brakes are nice, the transmission is great and the gauge cluster is cool. That is all I like about the car and I'm a long time Subaru owner.

I have not seen the engine compartment of the Evo yet. However I saw the pic. Having own WRX before, I have to said that the STI is much easier to work on. I can pull the tranny and change the clutch in about 1 day. I don't know about Evo.

I like cars that has space so I can work on it myself. I just don't trust those guys at the dealer working on my car, pluse $$$ that they charge

I love both cars, but STI would be my choice only because it got more space in the engine compartment.

It takes the same amount of time whether its an Evolution or a Impreza. Both are pretty straight forward. If you take a day to do either you are probably maxing out your mechanical abilities. By the time you remove your drive shaft, remove the pin that holds the front axles onto the transmission, remove the front hub from the lower ball joint so you can get more room to pull the front axles off of the transmission, remove the TMIC, remove the starter, remove the shifter linkage, remove all the bolts around the bellhousing, get the transmission seperated from the motor, remove the old clutch and put it all back together you could have done a Mitsubishi clutch. However assuming you know how to drive and aren't burning up your clutch it shouldn't be a concern putting in a new one. At least not without a couple years between doing it.

i coulld never answer this question, due to the fact that so many of my choices are missing.... like when you say interior quality, I consider the Evos interior to be of beter quality because the Recaro's definently edge out the subarus softer seats. But you probably intended that to be a point in the Subarus favor. Also, I would consider heritage -- i.e. Subarus violation of Group N tradition by using a 2.5L engine. How about quality? Hood and wing rattles and the other Subie bugs are IMO much worse than the Evolutions. I could go on and on and on, but I think you get the picture. Basically, I love the evo and not the STi. If i had to get a Subie, I'd want a WRX Sedan and mod it with Cobb or Vishnu stuff to beat an STi. More fun and a better car too.

For me it was the availability. I couldn't get a new WRX or STI in my area, but I found a red EVO for msrp.

The STI wasn't even in my list of consideration. I was deciding between the S2000 and the Evo only.

I thought about both cars. I was a bit biased, because I owned a eclipse prior to the EVO.

But what really supported my decision in going with the EVO was its razor sharp handling ability. After reading enough comparisons...its was quite clear the EVO felt more neutral, connected and better balanced than the STi handling and braking wise.
The fact the the EVO is built from the ground up and has all the specific welding is what makes the chassis so rigid as it is and stiffer than the STi chassis.

300hp definitely looked appealing...but once I feel confident enough in the WORKS brain flash...I'll get it done to my EVO and have similar hp numbers as well.

i too was bias but it was more for Subaru. i owned the WRX and loved the car. the STI was my first choice. never really thought about the EVO. but that's when i went to the dealer. this may sound kinda dumb but i went with the EVO based on my experience at the dealership. It was no hassle with the WRX but when it came to the STI, these guys are a bunch of *******s.

Don't have mine yet, but as people pointed out above......

I think the Evo looks much better, its bigger and looks exclusive....where the STi looks like a WRX with a big spoiler. The front mounted intercooler rocks and I really like the Evo tall spoiler, where the STis looks like a bookshelf. The spoiler and hood scoop shaking would drive me insane. If I wanted a shaking hood scoop, I would get a Mustang Mach 1. Not to mention, the hood scoop is really large.

Performance wise, both cars are very impressive......the Evo appears to beat the STi at just about everything (even if by a small margin) except for a small difference in acceleration.

The STi is most likely the better everyday vehicle, since it has a softer suspension that would make sense.....this doesn't concern me though.

Interior, the STis is a bit more polished (nicer gauges, trim). I don't think its built any better than the Evo though. The seats in the Evo are better than the STis, can't see how that can be argued.

Lastly, the 2.0 liter in the Evo is a proven motor.

I don't really like the re-design of the WRX. Now it just looks like a Sentra. And the Sti looks better in magazines than it does in real life, which is the exact opposite with the Evo.

As nice as the STI is, which includes its higher output, the Evo's handling includes the driver as part of the equation. The STI moves fast, almost as fast as the Evo in most corners, but there is a lack of confidence as you drive through the curve as in the Evo. The STI's price is not significantly higher than that of the Evo, so if it comes down to choosing between both cars, its up to personal perferance.
