Evo handles better, stable at speed.
STi has more power.
I can fix the Evo's power issue with mods easier than I can fix the the Suburu's handling.
That done, a modded Evo is superior as a driving/performance machine.
Regarding interior, etc., if I were worried about that, I'd get a Quattro or Porche AWD....

I was dead-set on getting an STi until I found out about the 2.5L motor. Not a lot of parts for it yet and also it's still unproven. The 4G63 in the Evo is VERY proven with a lot of parts available. If you plan to keep it stock for a while, this won't matter.

Hey just so you know the STI's 2.5 motor has been around since the 80's and has had tons of R&D it is definantly Proven!! As far as parts...the exhaust and intercooler are direct replacements from the wrx, as well as the under drive pulleys, fuel rails, radiator, radiator hosing, up pipe, and some other parts...the only thing that is 100% uncompatable is the ecu due to diffrent harness and the electronich throt control.

and yes there are tons of parts available for the eclipse/talon version of the 4g63 but there are not many (quality) parts available for the EVO as of yet. Yes there are some parts out, but not near as many for the EVO as the eclipse/talon since the car is new to the states. I know this because I am in the business and have tried to locat parts for both cars...and I actually have had better luck w/ the STi. I have owned a wrx and EVO so I am extremely familiar with both cars.

Everything I've read and heard says it's an all new motor
BTW, there are more parts available for the Evo than the Sti.

1st of all just because Subaru has been making the 2.5L motor for a while doesn't mean they've ever turbocharged it and added variable valve timing. This makes for a completely different beast that definitely has NOT been proven to be reliable yet. I'm not saying it won't be reliable, but seeing knock on a stock STI doesn't build much confidence. Stock 4g63's have been proven time and time again to handle 500+ hp on the stock internals. I'm running about that much on my stock internal '90 Talon right now.

Secondly, upgrade parts for the Evo are fairly easy to come by and develop because its already been done before for the DSM 4G63. Doing it again for the Evo 4g63 shouldn't take much work.

Maybe with a couple mods your detonation problems will come back. Great solution I say!

I Don't think the STI is as TUNER friendly as the EVO either.

Not all the cars ping, mine doesn't. The seat are fine not as nice as the EVO's but really damn nice seats (could have a bit more bolster). Lets all try to keep from exagerating.

I have all the hp wanna see.....

You definately got your info wrong. Yes Subaru's EJ25 has been around for a long time, but not the EJ25 turbo with semi-closed deck block and forged internals. It's a COMPLETELY new engine developed by STi just for USA. A lot of things made for the EJ20 will NOT fit the STi. Those plumbing mods you mentioned arent exactly "a lot of parts". One major plumbing component is the exhaust manifold, and none of the EJ20 ones fit.

There is a rumor floating around about a possible 20 hp loss from the reflash. Where did that rumor come from? A guy dynoing two different cars on two different days. I would not call that conclusive at all. I have the reflash. And I know my butt can tell a 20 hp loss. And mine does not have it.

As far as the STi not being tuner friendly?

Vishnu Stage 1: XEDE computer and 3 inch exhaust:
on 91 pump gas
260 whp and 272 lbs of torque!

on 96 octane :
284 wheel hp and 310ft-lbs of torque

The STi stock baseline was 210-215 wheel hp and 220ft-lbs of torque.

Yeah and thats just with tunning. your right.. not very mod friendly at all
