I'd like to read some opinions about it.
Someone else pointed out that EVO owners will add HP and STI owners will adjust suspension and then the two cars will be even closer.
But I wonder if some negative camber and ARB would be enough?
The STI appears to be a better daily driver, but a number of EVO owners are delighted commuting with their EVO's. So on it goes.
My Eclipse was set very hard and I liked it this way. I doubt I'd worry about EVO's setup.

My honest recommendation is pick the one you like based upon body style, or manufacture or DCCD or 4G63 or EJ or instruments or hood scoop or suspension or braking or whatever. Drive both if you can and then go with your gut. You just can't go wrong.

Did that make any sence?

Actually, in England girls are "birds." They can also be "tarts," but that's another story. And my favorite phrase I've heard regarding girls in England is "silly *****." Those are two words you'd never hear an American put together.
Gormless:
Well, I heard "Hey up" in Buxton, Derbyshire (pronounced dar-bi-sure for us Yanks). That's more like North-central England, right. Anywho, bollocks can obviously be either a positive or a negative, kind of like the word "****."
As for the Sti-Evo debate, I for one see the arguing as kind of silly. ALthough I do get perverse pleasure out of reading the fits guys are having over at NASIOC, these are obviously great cars. I HATE that hoodscoop on the Sti. Then again, plenty-o-people think the Evo looks like ***. Evo for me, Sti for you. As long as both camps are humilitaing E36's an SRT's at stoplights, it will be a very nice world
And finally,
SC~ who has a good enough sense of humor to appreciate a joke about him

FWIW, I saw a pre-production STi put down 253 wheel hp on an AWD Dynojet. The same AWD Dyno that an EVO press car put down 230 wheel hp. Same 91 octane. Similar conditions. More importantly, the STi had considerably more area under the torque curve with a peak of 260+ ft-lbs coming in early and staying flat for much of the midrange. Of course, the production STi may not be as strong. Or it might. Won't know until they hit the streets and are subjected to the same tests.
Stock for stock (for production cars) I suspect the STi will be considerably stronger than the EVO. No surpises there. The way the power is delivered is also subjectively more useful/entertaining as well. Power is one area Subaru focused on when it came to beating the EVO and they certainly succeeded based upon initial testing. But that's just about the only area I can think of where it will give the EVO a run for its money.
Also, just a reminder: Motor Trend comes from the same publishing house that brings you Super Street
Cheers,

As far as hard objective performance numbers go, the EVO and STi are within spitting distance of each other in just about every catagory. Some favoring the STi and others favoring the EVO. However, subjectively, they are *very* different. I can't speak for everyone as far as subjectivity goes. Drive both and see which one better suits you. That's the best advice I can give, really.

I was afraid you were going to say that...Well, I already (briefly) drove the Evo (and loved it), but I think the only time I will be able to drive the STi is 5 minutes before I sign the papers, not much time to decide...my family and coworkers are tired of hearing me agonize over this decision!
hey gsx95
i am also agonizing over the decision. will, maybe not agonizing, but certainly staying up late at night trying to iron out what i want.
it is pretty amazing how the performance #'s are soo close, and yet every review (including shivs, who i trust more than any other writter) they cannot comment on how different the cars are. i am #1 on my local dealer list for the STi, and i am very curious if i will even get a test drive. if i dont, i think i will defer until the hype dies down, so i can test drive one. OR wait until someone local will let me take a spin in their car. very hard choices indeed.
i have pretty much an idea of what i am going to end up with, but i still teeter every night back and forth. it is making me crazy. the bottom line is both cars are great cars. as different as they are, they will both be forces on the streets, and performance per dollar is unmatched. i just cant wait to get one!

josh,
Have you driven an evo? If you have not, that is something i'd advise doing so you know what you really want. My advice for most people is that if interior, long trips, is your thing, i'd go with STi. If your more about performance "not just straight line" go with the evo. Quicker steering ratio, better for racing. So i guess if you want a car a little more for the track or a little more for the street with more low end grunt? Just imagine an evo with a 1.5 way front ralliart limited slip? Even without ACD i'd bet it'll pull some admazing numbers on the track even if it's less powerful than the STi.
Good Luck with your choices. If the spec C came "i feel more evo comparative" that'll be an easy decision for scoobie fans. Personally I was hoping for the spec c suspention for the U.S. STi. I am really dissapointed to hear that the STi is not as stiff and understeer more than the evo with a front lsd?
