oh, and Scooby newbie, scooby specialist is how they rate the number of posts on NAISOENJSCJE (sp?) sorta like evolving member, evolved member here......
Actually, from what I've heard and learned from friends with them, the Scooby thing is a name thing for the car.
Scooby Doo rhymes with Subaru
Thats why they call them Scoobys, so I've heard.

HOW CAN YOU BE A EVO/SUBARU ENTHUSIASTS and not know the history of the EVO/STI battle - its almost fact that Evo is always harder/firmer/more track oriented than STI....almost fact that STI is more soft with ability to go offroad....
ALL the info from the new car magazines is OLD NEWS - if you check european magazines reviews and comparo's - its the exact same story minus the new STi's accleration/ power advantage.
HELLOOOOOOOOOOO????????
- the evo (previous and current gen.) has ALWAYS been judged as a more driver oreinted/ track oriented/ no holds barred handling machine. PEOPLE who are all about the hype WOULD NOT KNOW THIS.......
-STI's/WRX (previous and current gen.) has ALWAYS been judged as a good all around daily car with relatively "soft" handling. people who are all abot the hype would not know this as well....
SO besides acceleration, people with any brains like me
figured out months ago WHY the EVO was a better purchase (for me- crazy handling) SUBARU enthusiasts , REAL ONES, also figured this out months ago as well - they were simply waiting on a faster STI, an STI faster than the EVO - and THATS IT. NOT AN STI WITH BETTER HANDLING than the EVO, or with BETTER BRAKES than the EVO, JUST AN STI THAT WAS FASTER than the EVO.

preach on
yeah it really is funny how people are so suprised by the numbers and the reactions of the magazines. I could have played the part of a fortune teller and gave them that info. a while ago and scraped up a few bucks at th same time. I appreciate people that keep discussion professional about the EVO and the STi, and congratulate the rest on being idiots.
Some of those guys should calm down. It's so bad that some of these guys are reading these articles and not fully understanding what they just read. Where did that one guy read "the STI is better in every way"? Everything I've heard and read says that the cars are close and it more than likely will come down to driver ability and preference.
While I own an Evo..
.. I've always been a guy who enjoys driving. I always tell my friends that if I were rich I would probably have lots of different cars (not just an Evo or Mitsu although I would still get an Evo). Some of these guys don't seem like they actually enjoy driving as much as being on a bandwagon. My point is they need to stop crying about the reviews and when their car gets here drive and enjoy the car, I'm going to drive and enjoy my Evo regardless of whether I beat an STI, Mustang Cobra, Camaro, M3, another Evo or get my *** whipped by one. Enjoy the driving experience!

Both cars are great and one thing many of us are missing is the discussions going on at ford, chevy, S2000, and Beamer forums!
All of the reviews, STI or EVO, are quite impressive for any performance car and I'm sure stirred comments.
What has been most impressive is the consistent conclusion of the reviewers that the EVO is more fun!
And it is the better car in the twisties. Every magazine I have read plus Shiv's early comments have concluded that the EVO is the "scalpel", the "drivers" car, the one that is closest to a driving enthusiast’s style.
The STI is faster in the straights and will outperform the EVO on gravel and dirt. However, the EVO is better in the twisties and the difference is not mere 10ths, it is "We lost the STI in our rear view mirror". "It was a small blue blurr".... You can lose a STI in the Canyons and twisties of state roads and that is where most owners will spend their fun time.
I wanted something closer to the ultimate driving machine and I'll improve my driving skills to match it. The EVO has been the clear chose in that category by all the reviewers.

I was thinking, though... C&D magazine mentioned a downside to the STi was that the hood (due to the scoop) and the rear wing were "flappy" (in the wind at higher speeds). Anyone remember reading this? Only C&D mentioned it. Maybe their car wasn't bolted together 100%?
I wouldn't want a car that had a hood and wing that moved and/or deformed from wind resistance.... What's going on with that?

OMG!!! What a n00b!!
Why would you say such a thing when you obviously don't know what you're talking about??
SUBARU
SUBA-RU
SUBY-RU
SCOOBY-DOO
Thus the term SCOOBY.
Got it? Great.
GG.

This is funny too...

I think both cars are GREAT... we waited for so many years... and
finally we got these GREAT cars at reasonable prices...
shouldn't we be celebrating instead of fighting and arguing??

Is it possible, that EVO is just easier and handles like a superior WRX so people like Shiv used to this style and it suits them the best (no adjustments in technique).
Is it possible that STi is harder to master but then it will reward the driver more then EVO?
The reports were saying STi understeers when off throttle. What would happen if you dial in a bit more negative camber at the front or change front ARB to a smaller one? How will it then compare to EVO? What if STi driver would drive properly not lifting in corners to avoid this understeer alltogether?
Another complain was STi's "nervousness" at the limit. Is it because STi has real problems with suspension or just reviewers are unfamiliar with all these funky LSDs?
So many questions and decision is close.....

There are a number of WRX expatriots here and better qualified to answer your question concerning the EVO being a superior WRX. Someone else pointed out that EVO owners will add HP and STI owners will adjust suspension and then the two cars will be even closer.
The STI appears to be a better daily driver, but a number of EVO owners are delighted commuting with their EVO's. So on it goes. My honest recommendation is pick the one you like based upon body style, or manufacture or DCCD or 4G63 or EJ or instruments or hood scoop or suspension or braking or whatever. Drive both if you can and then go with your gut. You just can't go wrong.
Have fun!
