This is all too funny! Finally, two really great automobiles arrive in the US and people are acting like children. I am sure that if the named magazines had access to this thread they would have a great laugh. Obviously some people responding in this thread are barely old enough to have a driver's license, and that is without mention of their maturity level. Personally I pick the STi since it would fit my driving habits much better. However, if AutoX was my thing, the EVO would be the obvious choice.

I think Shiv started the epidemic with "cheers" or "regards" .....before he came aboard i never saw it.

Good point, especially if you're running on the track since the stock tires won't last but for a sec. and will soon be changed out anyway. Evo without a modded engine in the real world will always have trouble against pure stock more powerful STI.

What I don't like about STI is creepy descriptions of its handling, you can poweroversteer because of dccd -- fine, but then you get lift-throttle understeer because of the torsen dif in the front. This is because when you remove the torque by lifting the throttle the front differential stops killing the understeer by sending more power to the outside wheel. Lift off understeer is worse than power understeer. How would you fight it at 9 10ths in the middle of a turn when you come up on a car stalled on outside lane. You can't lift off, you'll plow into the car! Speed up?

.. What a relief.... FOr a while i thought the STi was going to rump all over the Evo.. HAhAHAH sti needs the extra .5 displacement and the extra 30 hp... and car and driver still choose the evo. Time to get a boost controllers to blow those sti's out of the water when they come out

It's very much a British/Australasian thing, I think Paul may be an Aussie by birth?

I'm a kiwi so can claim it as everyday word in my vocab..

Cheers!

I think you could hit 155 mph on Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, or the Nurburgring - but other than those two tracks no way, I agree.
I'd guess at Mosport you could hit 130 mph, at Lime Rock maybe 120 mph?
The STi is limited to 145 mph, I'm sure it'll hit 155+ mph without a limiter.

On virtually any road course, neither car will approach those speeds. The only closed course where you'll see 145+ for a street car is a banked oval.

When a mag tests a car they shift slowly under regular driving conditions, they're not out there power shifting or even shifting fast if they can. They are driving them WOT, but shifting them slow. Thats why the evo ran a 14.xx.

Yes, you would speed up actually - in the EVO (I think) review of the new STi, it mentions that exactly - how the car responded strangely at the worst time, and was heading for the weeds, so he gassed it and it somehow managed to right itself and stay on the road.
EVO thinks the new STi is much trickier and more hardcore than the old ones.

One small point. My EVO will be faster than a stock STI for less money. That is why I bought it, since it is much easier to increase horsepower than re-engineer a suspension. Plus it has better (alphabetically) balance, brakes, seats, steering and suspension.

The EVO is FUN to drive and I can't wait to line up next to an STI owner who is thinking..... "heh heh heh gonna clean this dude's clock cause he read Motortrend and thinks his EVO is faster than my 2.5L STi" but what he doesn't know is that for $1385.00 and 3 hours work I'm packing around 320hp and I did read post on how to launch....

Sounds more like North East England to me mate.

And shouldn't that be the "dog's bollocks" but I don't think I'd use it to describe I thought was alright. Or maybe you meant they were "a load of bollocks"

Anybody else want any English lessons ?

Man oh man are you going to rip him a new one. We all know that nobody will be modding their STi. Or that not a single STi owner will have more than $1385 to mod their car with. Ohhhh the agony that you're going to put on this guy. He's not going to know what hit him. Boy, I can't wait to see it. You should take a vidio so we can all see. Remember to point the camera in the right direction, out the front of your windsheld.
