Evo vs. STI | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
BoxerSTi....
Please notice his use of smileys.
Insulting him as a rice boy so quickly? Come on now.
He isn't talking stock as you are implying. Being rated #1 won't mean didlydo once modified. It's easier to get power out of the 4G63. That's fact and last time i checked the highest hp STi i've seen was a 600hp one. I have vids of it. The highest hp Evo i've seen was over 700hp. Anyway the point is it is very easy to make high hp with the 4G63. Anyone familiar with the HKS Evo? (If no you need to read about it.)
This isn't a flame btw. Just pointing out you are trying to put someone straight that dosen't need it. BTW, please leave that attitude at NASOIC or I-club. I could point faults on the STi as well (it might hurt your feelings more cause your coming off sensitive). I'd rather not. I like both cars.
WT* are you talking about rice boy? Please do some research before you speaks. Subaru is rated #1 oversea as reliablility, over Honda and Toyota, and was NEVER rated above Subaru in any country. And talk about tech...which car doesn't have AVCS, DCCD, front LSD, and super sport ABS with G senor. Don't flame me, I love both car, just tired of Speedlimit's bs.

The STI does have a few potential gotchas when it comes to power modification. First is the electronically controlled throttle. What is to keep the ECU from just easing off the throttle if it thinks the engine is making too much power?
Second is the variable valve timing. Some of these systems can be hard to work around.
Third is the ECU itself. The WRX seems to do some really odd things with timing that really stand in the way of good power production. I'm not sure if the STI also has these ECU hangups. It may or may not. Mitsubishi's ECUs seem relatively simple by comparison, and that is what you want for maximum modability.
Fourth is the unknown engine. It does seem to have a lot of good parts. But I'll be interested to see pictures of the combustion chamber and see the intake manifold on a flowbench.

14.01...thats hilarious.
Guess if you don't utilize the the AWD and try to launch it like a rwd car...
Anyways back in the mid 90s, the competition was between the 300ZX TT and Supra TT, both are amazing cars...
300ZX came out 1st, then the supra up'd it. We all know the supra was faster and handled better... If you're going to be 2nd in coming out, make sure you're better.
Lastly, the supra seemed to respond to mod's and easily get huge gains...300ZX is good, but nowhere near supra power land.
Maybe the subadu is like the 300ZX, hard to get huge gains? Or you need to spend a ridiculous amount to get there.
The biggest power limiting part will be the hood mounted intercooler. Repiping all that to a FMIC is going to be a *****, but yes it can be done.

I love it!!! And I love throwing insults too
Ok OK OK ........ ready? Let me guess... you're a champion bench racer right? Defender of the STI flag and master of the "Law of Minimum Astonishment " and probably future owner of neither. How's that?

I'm more than happy to discuss any aspect of the EVO you wish as I drive one every day. Also, I have the #1 deposit on an STI and may drive it before you. If so, I'll let you know how it drives too.

Speedlimit.......

Queation, isn't the EVO is comparable to the WRX 2.0L turbo/ 2.0L turbo and not the STI? The STI would be comparable to the EVO RS, but it's not in the states 'yet'. That's why the WRX is so popular here because there was no competition for it, until now. I realize the hp/tq numbers 227/ 271 and the price are a mis-match, but then again so is the extra .5L and 271/300 between the EVO/STI. I guess you could say the camparison between the EVO VIII and the STI is a red apple to a yellow apple, both apples but each has it's advantages over the other.
whats this displacement comment?
both Z and supra have 3.0L...
but the supra seems to get bigger power gains or better potential for power gains.
Also handles better...
As for the 2.0L to 2.0L comparison...the STi anywhere BUT THE USA, has a 2.0L!!!!
WRX is not in the same league.

We care about the price matchup, which is comparable.

Same with the sti having 2 liters everywhere else....everywhere
else the Evo has a six speed and a different differential setup.
So what? We care about the price matchup, which is comparable.

WHAT??? i've NEVER seen a stock wrx run a 13.2 second 1/4 mile OR turn in .97G on a skidpad.
WRX does 14.1
