what do you guys think? i would like some advice on this. yeah, i know evo will kick subbie's butt any day performance wise . . . but . . .
If you're not gonna race then don't get an Evo, don't even get an WRX STi, just get a normal WRX or something. Subaru is much more reliable then Mitsubishi. Most asians I know thinks Mitsubishi's quality is a joke, that's the impression I got anyway.

Great. More quality bashing.
First of all, Subaru had a recall scandal of their own in 1997 and were forced to recall 1.47 million cars.
Second, most of you base your biased opinions on the DSM Eclipse and Galant. Granted, those cars did and still do have some quality issues.
Build quality and reliability of Japan built models is nearly equivalent to that of Honda and Toyota.
in both Switzerland and Germany, is considered as a manufacturer of some of the most reliable cars available. See tha web sites for the ADAC and the TCS (autoclubs for the above mentioned nations). mode off
Thank you

Aahh, I'm gonna get flamed prolly, but I'm gonna say go with the STi... It is especially the car for you if you're looking for 0-60 n' quarter mile. Plus there's all this talk about the watered down Evos now...

the quality issue is more on US based model, because none of the dealer know how to fix it. but overseas, and in some other place mitsubishi quality is comparable or even better than the rest of the japanese imports. mitsubishi is a newbie compared to the honda and toyota in the US and generally biased opinions about quality. but, US mitsu is getting there.

that is why i said that time will tell. not many "Japanese" cars are made in Japan anymore....they are made here in the US. The EVO will be a true Japanese built vehicle (not assembled in the US) as is the Subaru, so it's really a waiting game. i for one am not out to bash companies, but the US built 2G eclipses were not up to par.

Here ya go. The site is in German, but the graphs are pretty good(actually shows Subaru way ahead of everyone... kinda contradicts what I said...).
But my actual point is, quality is quite good.

The ADAC website has only limited info on

http://www.adac.de/rund_ums_kfz/fahr...78C438D0A519A7

Hope this helps.

Subaru has had plenty of problems with the WRX in the United States. Both the clutch and the tranny have been problem areas for the GDA & GDB Impreza - there have been lots of warranty denials made by Subaru of America - go look at the iclub (or whatever it's called today)...

I've yet to hear of any common Mitsubishi problems aside from turbo'd 2g's and crankwalk. Subaru I've read a good bit on transmission problems. That's about it. I don't know what everyone else has based their responses on yet, but I definitely feel Mitsubishi has better quality across the board. From interior quality to maintenance I think Mitsubishis are built a little bit better. I can't speak well for Mitsubishi's red and yellow paint though...I've seen plenty of problems with those if not maintained.

subaru transmissions I'll admit are the weak link in the WRX's...however, I would venture out to say that over 90% of it would be due to the person behind the wheel.

Drag launching at 5g rpm by dropping the clutch all the time will break any AWD drive train. EVO or STi. That's why all the serious drag AWDs uses an aftermarket dog box.

Can't comment on the WRX, but my gf's 2.5RS was definately not overbuilt in any way... problems after problems. The quality of the parts on the Subie seem sub par to me. I can't comment on the US Evo since we won't know till it's here for a while, but I don't care... I've always wanted an Evo.

I personally know two people (one with a Legacy one with a 2.5RS) who both had their reverse gears on their AT cars just DROP DEAD. b_tapper (a former member)'s just dumped tranny fluid all over the dealership floor, and my other friend (now a happy owner of a 240sx) had his just give up. Not to mention WRX drivetrains don't seem to like mods.
