The Lancer Evolution and the Imprezza WRX STi both are great cars. I have had a chance to drive both cars on the track and on the street. Considering I own an Evo VII, I might be a bit bias but I prefer the Evolution over the Scoobie. Want Reasons? Well, in Hong Kong, the Evolution and STi's reliablity rate is a relatively the same. However, many STi drivers have complained about their turbos not running as smoothly as they should especially when compared with the turbo in the Evo (from which there is plenty of experience that Mitsubishi has learned beginning with the original Lancer Turbo). On the road, the agility of the Evo surpasses that of the STi. Powerwise, the Evo has an edge also. The STi is no doubt a good car and a good performer, but when compared to the Evo, it is a bit behind.

At least according to the torque curves in the leaked Evo VIII JDM brochure, the new STi makes more torque from 2000rpm and up than the EVO VIII.
Thing to remember here is that the new STi's engine is basically brand new. Not just new turbo's, headers, etc., but a new block and new AVCS settings are also part of the deal.
The real problem here is that we really cannot compare the old Evo VII with the new STi, and we cannot compare the new JDM Evo VIII with anything. It hasn't been tested yet. The brochure popped up because they have to start printing those things well in advance of release, and somebody in the factory/shipping snagged one.
It shall be rather interesting over the next few months.
Cheers,
Paul Hansen

If you look at this link (which has been posted before), and go to bottom of the page.
http://www.japanvehicles.com/newcars.../Evo8/main.htm It says the EVO VIII will have 392NM @ 3500rpm so it is 2NM less than the STI, not a noticable difference. It is also at 3500rpm so at least at this rpm the VIII must have more torque, unless the STI has 393NM from 3500rpm to 4350rpm and then peaks at 394NM at 4400rpm which I doubt. This page also has the gear ratios for the 6 speed and 5 speed, I am not sure how acurate this information is but the ratios are believable and the close ratio 5 speed is the same as the current one in the RS so that is right.

The only AWD that seem to destroy the drivetrain are the 2.4 L stroker motors with tons of torque.
I believe in that video, the WRX only came out on top because the driver felt it was better on a day-to-day basis. He even said that the Evo VII was actually a faster track car. He was just stating what he would like to own, not which is a superior car. Though really, both of these cars are different than their newer models (especially the sti), so the comparison's not really valid.
Oh my lord you guys are one sided. The s202 is a BAD MACHINE! And Boxers are known for their 4 cylinder torque.
I don't know. he cars are really even. I would pick the Subaru just for the reliability, but they are very even. The new STi VIII Actually has a ACD...we call it a DCCD.
After putting the 6MT in my WRX I must proclaim that it is a really great car.
Next year, the wife and I are going to buy a spec c STi over in Japan (The new body style). All of my mods are going on it.
Overall, I would be **** eating grin happy with either ride!
Oh yeah! The spec C actually out accelerates the Evo7. The Evo 7 outbreaks it. In best motoring#7 or 8, they couldn't say enough about the accelleration. Stock for stock/head to head. The Spec C won the competition (Head to head), but it was so close. I love both cars!

You know one thing I keep seeing in these posts. EVO vs WRX. That's not a fair comparison you konw. It needs to be EVO vs Sti. Unless when you guys do say WRX you MEAN Sti, which I think most of you don't.

Finally many of the STI's racing out here have weak gearbox's that need to be rebuilt after every event, or replaced with a racing box. Reliable?

NOTE: I am not saying the Impreza STI is a bad car, just that it has some weak points (like all cars) and I am yet to read a test where it was found to be faster then the Evo.
