Hey man, don't even compare it to a wrx. I've driven the wrx for 6 month and not satisfied. With the brake, shock, swaybar, turbo, trans, not mentioning the engine mods would cost more than the evo. The bottom like is that the wrx stock setup even with 17" so2's handle like a boat. The trans is horrible, intercooler small and soaks heat, and how big is that turbo and injectors again? The evo gets so much more than the wrx for it's price and if you know about the car it is easily tunned to 350hp much cheaper than the rex. We have everything already and just need the exhaust and computer for killer performance. Just wait and see.

I'm concerned about the weight too, but remmeber 100lbs is good for about .1 in the quarter. As for handling you are right it matters but we get so much more than the rex in terms of suspention. If you don't feel the evo is good enough car for you, go with the 04rex and tell me about the clutch and trans.

Go to www.nasioc.com. They feel the car is a pos too. If i beat the rex's with my pos what will that make their car to be

MaxR,

I really don't understand where you are coming from w/this comment. The wrx may be cheaper, but like gtr stated, it's not the best thing in the world. I looked at wrx's just a couple of weeks ago. Around here they go for about 24,000$ to 25,000$ and if I wanted to get the sti suspension and the 17" rims It would be close to 30,000$ Where is the bargin there? I think the wrx is a good car, but come on, some of your statements are alittle If the lancer is gonna be selling for under 30,000$ where is the comparison? I want to know? It just seems like you want to ***** about the weight. Which IMO isn't any different than the Evo VII. People here are so picky about this car that you haven't even driven yet!!!!!!!

Hey if ya don't like what ya see then don't buy it. Buy the wrx and I will see ya in my rear view mirror

I'm sorry but alot of people have their heads up their asses right now. Compairing the US Evolution to the New Age WRX is idiotic. The WRX sedan has trouble keeping up with a freaking Audi S4 wagon. Now before you quote car and driver (like subaru loves to do) realize that they were able to beat the S4 sedan by one tenth of a second in the 0-60... and thats it. Take them to the 1/4 track and watch an S4 make the pass at 13.8 stock.

Why am I making that compairison? Because the freaking Audi S4 avant weighs 3800 pounds! And only has a 25HP advantage against the WRX. ITs all about usable power kids. The Audi has 258 Ft/Lbs of torque waaay down low at 1900 RPMS and starts breathing heavy at just 3000 rpms. The scooby has trouble keeping its turbo spooled between shifts, no such problem with the S4.

So where will the Evo play out? Quite well actually. Even at your "pig" like 3300 lbs its only a couple hundred lbs heavier than the WRX, but has way more usable power at lower RPMs and the turbo spools up nice and fast to help it come back to life between shifts.

I guess everyone has an opinion. This is mine. But I plan on autocrossing the Evo until the sun comes home. If I can already easily beat the times of stock WRX 5spds in my stock S4 Avant automatic... then I really don't see where the WRX comes in to play in this conversation.

Oh and 3 inches making the Evo a boat... seriously... its three inches... get a ruler and figure out how small that is. If anyone can tell the difference between a car that is three inches larger than another then my hat off to you.

You are talkin about a car with 6 cylinders twin turbo!! It is supose to beat the stock WRX, Road and track timed S4 1/4miles 14.2 , and WRX 14.1. but I guess you did a better time at the track, so did my WRX. But why are you taking it out on a first year stock WRX? 2004 WRX is going to be 250HP, STi 270+!!!

As someone who owned an S4 for a short time, I can tell you that out there in the big wide real world, a WRX would ruin the Audi S4 in anything other than, perhaps, a drag race with a very long strip. And even then, from the drivers seat, there'd be very little in it. The WRX is an exciting to drive, fast and sharp steering car next to anything. The Audi, whilst a very solid and rapid car, is decidedly wooden to drive, by comparison (when it's not in the service dept for the 8th time that year!). I love'd my S4 for all 7 months I had it, despite it's idiosyncrasies. I would have been driving the WRX next had the 330i lease not been cheaper for two years than the WRXs was for three!!
Anyway, anyone lucky enough to be able to drive either of these two cars will likely be an enthusiast or at least someone who enjoys sports cars. Either way the whole "my car (or favorite car) is better than yours because..." debate is a very personal opinion and wouldn't it be boring if everyone drove a silver Evolution? (or white, like I am getting!). Be happy that we'll all be driving one of the top 5 most exciting cars on sale (at any price), soon if we're lucky, and we can destroy any of them out on the streets !!!
So stop bashing other people's choice ! Preach on brother guru.

I don't know if you realize this or not, but it's ONLY 3 inches longer. The way you're reacting it sounds like it's 3 FEET longer. Also the USDM Evo VIII is only 50kg heavier then the JDM Evo VII. 50kg more on a car doesn't make it a bloated pig either. Maybe on you it would, but not a car.

3 inches huh!! He must think that he's well endowed to believe 3 inches is a lot... he must be only 3 inches himself... What an idiot to say crap like that... I have a WRX, and to make up 44hp in mods will make the car the same price.. Trust me, I know.. Anyways, I'll be getting rid of the WRX as soon as my EVO arrives... I hate the brakes, tranny kinda sucks (clinky), did I mention the brakes? They warp after 2 hard stops.. That blows.. My gsx keeps stopping and stopping over and over.. And it has 3 times the hp as the WRX, reliably... With stock internals.. Anywyas, since i've owned but the WRX and wannabe EVO, I think I can honestly say that the EVO will definately be the dominant figure on the road, even after the STI arrives...

EVO/STi vs. WRX (realistic)

What really makes more sense to buy? Its been said that the EVO and STi will not make good daily drivers. The ride will be more harsh than your average "sports car" , the cost of maintenance is going to be crazy. 2/3 clutches a year...few sets of tires. So you think the harsh ride and maintenance isnt going to bother you. Do you plan on racing this car? (even more maintenance) There are drivers who can get faster lap times in a Civic than other drivers in a Ferrari. So will that extra HP and traction control really matter? And if you dont race how often are you really going to use all that power on the street? Street racing?

So for 22.5K I can get a WRX with 227HP and the basics with a somewhat comfortable ride and softer seat. Or for 30-32K I can get 44/73 more HP and a few extras that I might not ever need. It would be nice to have but not really needed.

I have an idea of what you are going to say about my comments but I am no dumbass. I have been a fan of the EVO for a long time. I put off buying the WRX for the last 2 years because there was a rumor that the EVO was coming. Now that I have a choice of 3 cars I am really trying to figure out what would be the best choice.

i was going to ask the exact same question. i want a 4 door sports car, but i will never race. it'll be my daily driver--i've had automatic maximas for all my life and i want some driving excitement. i was a fan of evo ever since gt3 and when i heard it was coming, i realized that i could actually afford one!

now the questions is, as much as i want an evo (or sti), will it be impractical? maintenance costs? harsh ride (how harsh)?

wrx might be a compromise, but it might be more than what i need. but then again, this will be the first and last sports car i buy, so i should get the one i really want.

dilemmas, dilemmas . . .
