Evo vs. STI | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]

The 6 speed can handle the STI's power.
I'm a subaru bigot though, so what do I know.

Here in our shores (where JDM and Euro STi's and JDM Evo's are abound), I'd have to say the horror stories mainly come from hard driving on the track.
The only non-track horror story is the Evo clutch (but I wouldn't classify it as "horror").
I myself have blown an engine on the track, but that's my own fault for pushing the car too hard and too long without having proper equipment (read: OIL COOLER).
I'm not a Subaru or Mitsu bigot, but I do drive a Scooby
Sup folks,

I can't remember the exact details because I don't own an Evo, but here's what I know/remember (others who know for sure please chime in):
The first batches of JDM Evo VII had a faulty clutch assembly. I can't remember exactly which part of the clutch was affected, but it had something to do with the clamping mechanism. It caused the clutch to wear out WAY prematurely (we're talking about within 3,000 - 5000 miles).
Mitsubishi admitted the fault (I remember finding a link to the Japanese website, in which every damn thing was explained... in Japanese of course, but there were some useful diagrams). Consequently, they issued a recall, and apparently fixed the problem. I said apparently because I have yet to touch base with my fellow Evo owners about it. Most just replace the clutch with a heavy-duty unit, which alleviated the problem somewhat (although the clutch does wear out fast still).
Oh and the other side effect of the faulty clutch was clutch slippage in all gears, especially if the Evo has been modded (increased boost etc. <- not extreme mods).
So there you go
I wish I had the link to the Jap page, but being a non-Evo owner I wasn't too interested.
JDM STi on the other hand had a transmission oil pump recall. Only the first batch Type RA's were affected IIRC.

The Rx-8 has a six speed(always a plus), 1.3L NA rotary, 250 horse at 6500rpm's, 159 lb./ft if tourque
at 5500rpms, revs to 9grand, rear wheal drive, it does have a really slick third door that leads to a back seat that I can assure you is cramped.
On the Evo you get a turbo charged 2L, this makes 271chp and apx. 280 tourque
, this goes through a five speed manual tothe awd which I believe is a 2 way rear lsd and a open front diff., and comfortable 5 passanger seating, guarentied to beat the rx8 in probably all competitions(0-60, 1/4 mile, obviously rallying, auto-x, and track).
..But the evo is a couple thousand dollars more than the rx8, in my opinion this is definitely worth the extra dough for the performance and utility advantage you would have over the rx8.

Here is the link for the rx-8 spec page on the Mazda site

Even though numbers are not everything it seams to me that there is no comparison, unless you are really into na, high rev, low torque, rwd cars.
