Well, we're forgetting that back when we had no firm info on a broken in car, the times were slower than some of the ones turning up.. Plus they'll also be bolting on the same stuff.. This'll be alot of fun to see how fast either of these cars can go with mods..

Yeah, I think we're beginning to talk about a matchup that (Given both cars are stock) would come down to driver skill.. But who leaves their cars stock anyway??

They can't bolt on the same stuff! There has been no development on the 2.5 liter motor. It will take months maybe a year to have some performance options, and even then there will be an insecurity about the reliability of the new engine, even though it is supposed to be tough, it is as of right now, unproven.

P.S. How was that evo so fast, was it driven by a miget? Also it would be intresting to see the top speed of each gear for the STi.

that makes me laugh, funny stuff..

it's time for the STi to show it's face, like now. we need these cars on the streets so real people can give their opinion and reviews

(im thinking that should be soon, right? my local subaru dealership doesnt even have 04s on the lot yet, let alone the idea of when the STi is gonna show)

It may have 500cc more displacement than the 2.0 turbo, but that doesn't mean that everything that is bolted to it is vastly different. Quite the opposite, most is the same. Plus it's not a twin-scroll turbo, rather a standard turbo setup with standard manifold - which does make it easier to find better turbo's to bolt on.

In other words, there are bolt-on mods already, despite the USDM STi is not even out.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

ps. I think evolutionm.net owners would be up in arms if a magazine tested the USDM STi at 12.7 secs in the quarter mile, too. It's not like Motor Trend has a lot of respect from me in the first place, but those times are a bit outlandish given the published power difference and actual owners reports.

I'm thinking that because the STI has "shorter gearing for 6 speed", the the delay in shifting through the gears in the 1/4 slows it a bit?? But I can't start to believe that the STI would go through 4th and into 5th in the 1/4... It's a mystery to yet be seen..

But the supposed 13.01 or 13.10 (whatever) in the 1/4 is a REALLY sweet time, For a stock ride...

Mitsubishi seems a bit slimey to send an obvious ringer to Motor Trend - now they will probably distribute article pamphlets to all their dealers to mislead buyers. 105 mph trap speed when every other magazine and individual is getting 100 to 101 mph - the car must have an extra 40 hp.

105 trap speed seems too high to me (i like the Evo, but....).....of course if they raced on the same track, the same day, who cares... the Evo won.

Who's to say that the STi is not a ringer?

What actual owner reports? We only hear dealer test drives not impressed probably due to the 87 octane running in those evos

As form me i'm going to hit low to mid 13's soon. No tricks for me. No ice, no prep, all stock

well my .02 is this

we have seen evos consistantly run 13.2-13.5...with some drivers thinking that a 13.0 or 13.1 is possible

could it be that the Motor Trend driver was able to through driver skill to extract that last .1 sec?

AS for the Sti...damn that thing should be quicker than that...could the 6 speed be holding it back in the 0-60 and on the 1/4?

I agree. The Road & Track numbers for the Evo have already been proven to be a dirty dirty lie based on what your average Evo owner can do.

Oh yeah, I forgot about SCC and their "ringer" car. Which happened to run the 1/4 at about the same pace as every other Evo owner not in CA.
