Evo vs. STI | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
There are not a lot of WRX's that have been sent over to Europe to run WRC though. I believe the exact number is around 0.
Keeping 2.0 doesn't matter anywhere, they only have to make 50 cars to meet homoligation regs, and all 50 can be specially built vehicles intended only for rallying.

It's best not to get emotionally attached to a single car company. That way you can see the choices more clearly and likely won't get ripped off because you HAVE to have a certain car even if it means paying 5k over msrp. I really don't give a damn which car company comes out ahead in the end, as long as they fight each other hard and they let us vultures feed on the carcasses

).I think perhaps 97itr153 can relate considering how Honda is not importing the Civic Type R (good handling for the price), Integra Type R (be called RSX Type R in states, again good handling for price), or the the NSX Type R (named EVO's car of the year and with 200 lb lost, does 0 to 60 in 4.4 mph, substantially faster than our USDM NSXs) and thereby losing a good number of the people who like weekend to hardcore racing.

Why bother when the Europeans can import a Spec C from Japan and also have it (if they want) street legal due to more relaxed importing rules?
That's my whole point. They only need the 2.0 for WRC. They only need 50 cars per year with a 2.0 to meet the regs. They don't even have to sell any of those to the public, they can all go to prodrive. The cars they sell to the public could all be 8.0 V12's for all they care. Now a 2.5 will need a smaller restrictor for the SCCA pro rallys, and may end up not being as competitive as a 2.0, but it's not a requirement. So people can stop asking how they get away with a 2.5 when they need a 2.0 for WRC.

They both should just cut to the chase and put in Veyron
V-12's in the cars...LOL (1000+hp / 4 turbos) SWEET
But seriously I can't wait for the (place car magazine name here) EVO vs. Sti comparison article!!!

I'm under the impression 2000 cars have to be built to meet homoligation, (which are mostly released and sold in Japan) with 20 homoliganized components on the car. Last I heard they are trying to reduce the number of items to 10. I may however be mixing up the 2000 cars figure with Group A regulations. Too lazy to check.

The first link lists the definition of what the FIA considers to be a "World Rally Car" as was introduced in 1997. I'm not sure what else has changed since 1997, but one new thing for 2003 is the reduction of the number of homologation specials from 20 down to 10.
Since those 10 cars are going to be used for competition, a manufacturer can put anything they want in the production version, as long as the basic definitions listed on the first link are met.
Jeremy Clarkson Review - EVO VIII vs STi
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...626668,00.html
Looking for a substantiated comparison test from a well respected Motor Journalist? Then look no further; at least for now.
In this article, Clarkson compares the new STi with the 300bhp Prodrive Pack against the new Evolution VIII. The article starts out with a lengthy (and worth reading) description of why one should NOT blindly trust the opinion of EVERYONE who claims to be an auto journalist.
My favourite quote from the article...
"If I may be permitted to liken cars to people, most spend their days cleaning the bath and going to work and sewing name tags on children's PE kit. The Evo and the Impreza get all that stuff out of the way before breakfast and then spend the rest of the time having wild, mad, passionate and, it must be said, often illegal sex."
Jeremy Clarkson
As for me...I will NOT buy either car UNTIL and UNLESS I have had a chance to drive both. That is the ONLY way I will be able to sleep well at night.

The truth is, we are not getting both of these cars in their European form...so this article is more like a good read than accurate reference to their US counterparts
That's a very good approach to take

Interesting US STI vs US EVO8
