Evo vs. STI | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
TOP GEAR (UK magazine) Evo vs STI
In the May 2003 issue they test the STI (new look) vs the Evo (VIII).
There are some error's through out the stats, so I am not sure if the STI has the 2.0L or the new 2.5L in this comparo.
----------------------------EVO --------------- STI
HP ------------------------280------------------300
TQ-------------------------184 (error) --------299
0-60-----------------------4.9 sec-------------5.3 sec
0-100---------------------13.2 sec ----------13.9 sec
¼ mle -------------------13.7 @ 102.2 -----13.8 @ 99.7mph
30-70 thrgh gears ------5.1 sec ------------5.2 sec
Lap Time -----------------1:34.8 sec -------1:38.1
Weight kg-----------------1410kg ----------1470kg
Weight lbs -------------3102lbs -----------3234lbs
Engine Size -----------1997cc--------------1994cc (pos error?)
Weeeehaww..... I didn't have time to read the article, but the numbers (nothing better than magazine racing) would say that the Evo is the better performance car. I am not sure what the gear ratios are for the Euro Evo with 6 speed, but I beat that ¼ mile time on my first run (for either car) with my USA 5 speed.
Sorry if this is a repost, but I did not see anywhere that it had been posted.
Lotus Elise with 187hp had a lap time of 1:31.1

This is what you were looking for: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ght=EVO+vs+STi
The UK STi, even with PPP, isn't a great estimate of the USDM STi. Some differences in the US model:
2.5l
Turbo type
Max Boost (14.5 psi US vs 16.5 JDM)
DBW
Gauges
Wheels
Tires
DCCD
Rear Diff
Front suspension geometry
Seats
Steering rack
Weight
So, bascially large (or entire) parts of the suspension, drivetrain and engine are different (aside from the 6 speed). Speaking of the six speed, reviewer's opinions on it are as varied as the people themselves. When EVO (the magazine) compared the JDM Evo 7 to the JDM STi7, they commented that "the STi has the shifter the Evo deserves."
Regardless, in two weeks you'll have more USDM Evo vs STi discussions than you can stand (if you haven't already met your limit yet).

I think the Evo will be faster around corners than the STI.
But I bet the US STI turns in consistant low 13's and high 12's.
It's going to be fast in a straight for sure.

Can't wait to get some real documented magazine articles

"Newsflash: The STi that I saw dyno'd made substantially more power than the EVO. And not suprisingly, it's also a bit quicker and faster in the 1/4 mile, despite having to shift into 5th gear well before the trap. Compared to the STi, power output isn't the EVO's strong point. But that should be old news by now."

If teh EVO had 320 hp for another 3500-5000, I think there would be some interest. But anyhting more then that, and people will just buy the Sti. At least there are parts for teh EVO in teh first place, there is NOTHING in the market for the aftermarket for the STI. And, since the engine will be specific only to the US, I am sure that the quality of parts and performace from the EVO tuners will be better tested then for the STi, especialy if only 5000 of the STis are coming to the US.

UK EVO = 3102 lbs
Difference = 132 lbs
US STI = 3263 lbs
US EVO = 3263 lbs
Difference = 0 lbs
Those 132 lbs should impact how the US versions Handle and Accelerate.
Also the US STi with it's 2.5l engine should be a lot stronger off-boost below 3000 rpms. My '02 WRX is slow as mollasses before the boost kicks in

Speedlimit......
US STI = 3263 lbs

8.2 is probably 12's in the quarter.
If it does with the spec C shocks we might be in trouble.
