My friend has the STi. With the over agressive gear the car feel strong for 1 sec and has nothing after. If your into 1/4 mile the Evo wins if your keeping stock turbos. Subaru ECU is funny and to my knowlege only Vishnu offer a kit for the STi. In short the STi Understeers like a pig. that's why my pic goes towards evo.

If your worried about ride, tire noise, wind noise, crappy paint, and STi's super thing sheet metal that you can dent while waxing don't buy either! Both harsh crappy and cheap cars on the interior. The M3 would be the best pic for the decent performance, ultimate pickey car people. I know i've own one before

You should stay with the v6 mustang. And don't make comparisons between the STI and EVO if you don't even know how to drive a manual properly. Not a flame, but please get serious. Your first stick should be something a tad more tame.

Wow, amazing... you got to test drive an STi. The dealership here wouldn't let me test drive one before I bought my Evolution. Subaru's loss not mine

I feel the Spec C would be a fair comparason. 13.1 rack and stiff spring to match the evo? I mean the STi is set up with the wrong sway bars and suspention, not quite good for the track nor the road. Sort of like all season tire

Just sit in those seat and you'll know it's a hybred sport/everyday compromise car. If i wanted a sport everyday car i'd rather go with the M3, C32 AMG, S4, or something that has class, comfort, and performance. All performance would be elise and STi is something in between the evo and G35. Dont' get me wrong it's a nice car but if your ride is already harsh, why not go all the way?

Yes, the seats are horrible. I feel like I'm sitting on the car, not in it. I also don't believe the STi has projector HIDs, they are reflector, not that it's a big deal. I hope to get some stick time in w/ my buddies Civic. I'm not going to let it deter me from driving the car I want, I hate automatics, after 3 months of owning my Mustang I knew it was a huge mistake.

how old are you, if you don't mind me asking?

and just get the evo.... it's so fun to drive, and it looks much meaner and sleeker than the STi.

come on guys, an evo is probably not the best car to learn stick on, but the fact that he's not the most experienced manual-driver shouldn't deter him from buying a phenomenal car such as an evo or sti.
i say more power to ya.

anyhow, i am also considering an evo as my next car... fact is, it's cheaper than the sti, and is defiantely more within my price range.

i was able to test drive one with a guy who was younger than me, and just as excited about the car (he just bought one!), so i got a chance to really get the car moving. the sales person actually got excited when i took turns fast and accelerated onto the freeway! he kept saying 'nice...'

anyhow, after that testdrive, i more-or-less fell in love with the car. i'm hoping within the next few months to trade in my wrx (which i also love) for a tarmac evo.

I'm 20, and yes, I'm paying for the car myself if that's where this is heading

Hell, my FIRST car was my Evo and it only took me about a week to get used to driving a stick...I am also complimented all the time on my driving. I guess it is situational really.

Horrible test drive, it was dark, I wasn't having much luck w/ the clutch and the salesman was a sissy.
maybe he was thinking ohh crap i hope he dosnt screw up this $27k car...remember your clutch frying driving lessons are goin on in a car that will eventually be bought by some1...he has to look out for his product

don't let the fact that you aren't that experienced with a manual tranny make you get something other than the evo. Hell, the evo is my first manual car. I got about an hour of practice time on a 93 camry before I got the EVO. I was scared to drive the car off the lot, hahaha. But it's not that bad, you'll get the hang of it fast.

Just a side not that the STi shifter/linkage sucks. You can grab the shifter, put it in 3rd or whatever gear and it has 3in play from right to left. Seem like a easy shifter to miss a gear and worst of all sloppy.

Dont' forget STi has cruise control . If you drive on hi-way, roads suck where you live or don't plan on any compeditive events go with STi. The suspention is longer and follow the road rather than fly over the bumps.
