Evo 8 Ignition Coil Testing *SpoolinUp*

Ok, guys I've been having this issue for the past 2 months and I have no idea what is going on with the car. So I'm testing trying to test the ignition coils to see if they could be the culprit. I have Spoolin Up COP kit on the car with part # 673-1306 for the coils. I have the Ohm Meter to check the resistance but I'm not sure if I am checking these properly maybe someone could help me double check.

I am holding the + to the first Pin on the left and the - to the other 3 pins to get my readings on the coils. Here they go from Cyl 1-4

1.) .348 Kohm , 5.163 Kohm , 3.463 Kohm

2.) .348 Kohm , 5.179 Kohm , 3.487 Kohm

3.) .347 Kohm , 5.182 Kohm , 3.472 Kohm

4.) .348 Kohm , 5.165 Kohm , 3.461 Kohm

They are all within a small amount of ea other so they might be fine but I just need to know the correct value & if I'm even doing this right.

Thanks guys

is it misfiring on cyl 2&3? If so coils are shot... Send it back to Matt@Spoolinup and see what he can do for you...

Well, it is weird it's not throwing a misfire code. When I am cruising I can feel the car cut out and Fuel goes REALY RICH , 9.XX - 11.xx for a split seconds and goes back to normal 14.5-7. All while cruising. What makes you said cyl 2 & 3?

Cause cylinder 2&3 were the ones that used to crap out with my spoolinup kit... it would usually happen while cruising on the freeway and I could feel a slight hesitation, I would press the gas and I could feel it missing badly...

Did you ever figure out if the cops were causing your issue?? Iv been having the same exact problem where my car randomly cuts out while I'm cruising on the freeway likes its missing bad until I let off the gas. Sometime I can down shift for it to go away. I did the "DIY" coil on plugs and have bought new plugs and still have this issue.

does it cut all power, or does it go blapblapblapblap as soon as you start hitting boost?

It only happens while cruising on the freeway. Right between 2500-3000 rpm when I lightly have my foot on the gas pedal. Feels like letting off the gas for a second then getting back on it. If I don't completely let off and coast it will continue missing badly. Feeling like getting on and off the gas pedal over and over again. Never happens while boosting. Only while in vacuum cruising usually on freeway in 5th gear. No check engine light codes or anything show up making it very hard for me to diagnose. I'm assuming it's my cop wiring? Iv replaced my denso 673 cops twice now and still have the issue..

if it were the wiring it should be non-working at all on whatever cylinder it's having issues with. does it misfire or stumble at idle?

might try contacting matt @ spoolinup and seeing if he will exchange the unit for a known working one?

I put the cop myself and did the wiring myself.. now I'm wishing I just spend the money with matt at spoolinup. I recently rewired it and everything looks good.. Maybe it has nothing to do with the cops. My tuner thinks maybe its because when I replaced the fuel pump I reused the original fuel pump filter and didn't replace it. I just ordered a new fuel pump filter so will see if it fixes the problem. Just weird how the car NEVER misfires during boost or anything it drives excellent until I get on the freeway and cruise lol

weird; if the coils are all testing the same and it's wired correctly (it would run like utter **** if it weren't) i doubt it's an issue with the COP setup at all

That is a common problem on the EVO8. It is not the coils. I deleted the random misfire code routine or whatever and it eliminated that on my car. I did it years ago so I don't remember the specifics.

I thought maybe it could be the P0300 code too after researching but I look in my rom and it's already been disabled in it. It doesn't throw any code when it happens either.

Any luck figuring out your issue? I have a similar problem that usually only occurs driving down the highway. Doesn't happen under wot but it is getting more frequent. I don't have a cops setup so thinking something different? Also you mention the p0300 delete would fix this? Why would the code setting "cause" the misfire to keep occuring? Also why does it go away when releasing the throttle?
