Evo will never be a DSM. Only thing it shares with DSM's is a 4G63.

That being said I think the Evo will hit a bottom line price for 1) Beat to hell condition, 2) Moderately maintained but needs some TLC and 3) Clean and or Tastefully modded. Whatever people are willing to pay for IX's subtract about 2-3k for an VIII.

Thats my personal opinion. The one thing that is similar to Supra's and RX-7's is the fact that people that who truly love the platform always end up coming back (Unless they get a GTR, LOL). That is what will help with resale.

Give it 10 years as the poorly maintained ones are either destroyed or rehabilitated the prices will hit a plateau.......remains to be seen but I think they will appreciate. Eventually.

Owns GTR when you consider cost of entry and cost to modify. Evo is the perfect balance between cost, capability, versatility and utility.

I love the GTR but its still a 55K+ vehicle for even the first gen.

If people are willing to pay these "high" prices then wouldn't that be the true value of the car?

Book values are commodity values (with the exception of Hemmings Motor News) and have nothing to do with special interest vehicle values. For example my 87 vanagon syncro westfalia has an average condition book value of $7,000. Try finding a decent one for under $25k, mint condition examples often sell for over $40k...

The evo IX will forever more have strong demand with a supply that is likely dwindling every week. If any vehicle represents a significant chapter of automotive engineering, racing, or design it is no longer a commodity but instead an art form. An evo IX can be all three to many. Some people get the automobile as art, as an object of desire that transcends the sum of it's parts. Aficionados will pay accordingly. Most do not and they refer to Kelly blue book.

I found a ix mr with 18k miles for $24.5k here in cali. Would this be considered a good deal?

I bought my WW IX RS brand new in 2006 for $29k or so. Sold it last April for $20k with 80k on the clock and the only mod being DBA slotted rotors.

I absolutely regret selling it every single day.

That is the re-occuring theme I see from most Evo owners that move on....One of the reasons i haven't jumped ship. I don't want to have any regrets.

that's not bad at all for an MR with only 18k, i would jump on that if your serious about it, given it's got a clear title and there's no catch to it

The fact of the matter is that many folks have moved on to platforms that simply cannot match the bang-for-the-buck that the 4G63's aftermarket offers. So of those who have moved on but still have the mod bug (like myself), its hard to find our fix as easily.

I think that the only thing the Evo gives up to pretty much any other enthusiast platform on the market would be an "upscale" feeling. From the standpoints of practicality, reliability, outright performance, cost-of-ownership and the aforementioned bang-for-the-buck value, I had a hard (read: impossible) time finding a replacement that fit my budget but would improve upon the premium feel of the car. The only things that came somewhat close were the Audi S4 ($$$), TL SH-AWD (not sure what the aftermarket is like on those and how they respond to mods), and Evo X (which is not exactly a step up in the "premium feel" department).

The TL is not very mod heavy. Even Honda guys dont really do much beyond wheels suspension and bolt ons.

Also, I've heard the TL's automatic transmission is hit-or-miss, from people who work on them, so go for the manual transmission if you can hunt one down. And like what SmurfZilla said, they're not even really modded either.
