Honda has had issues with their automatic transmissions on their V6 models since the 1st gen TL and the 5th gen accord.
I have no clue why but all of the cars that use their V6 (Including the MDX) are hit or miss some have no issues and some can't keep a transmission in the car longer then a few years. Very strange.
I plus one on the Upscale feeling missing. Even my wife's STi feels a bit more upscale then my Evo, BUT, there is a little bit of novelty in that for me. The Evo IX is sparse, devoid of even crusie control, loud, obnoxious and the seats still have to be hand cranked.
Because race car.
You can call it cheap, call it devoid of creature comforts.
I call it purpose built. Race car disguised as a street car. I can see why people go to other platforms. The Evo is a bit boy racerish. A bit analog compared to some of the newer cars out there. Inexcusably behind the times.
But I think thats part of its charm.

I know what you mean... while I didn't feel that way at the time about some other cars, I find myself more interested in older models (E30/E36 M3, for example) than the newer ones that are just bloated and with all sorts of nice creature comforts that really don't matter too much to me, even if the car has way more power and is faster than the models it replaced.
And the Evo is just like that. And like a lot of others, I'm glad I never parted with mine.

As far as the price of Evos, I paid just over 24Gs for mine with 31K on it. It had approx. 10grand in mods, and I sold some of them. But the price is offset because I had to buy better or more appropriate mods to suit my liking/style. Since I've purchased the car 2yrs ago, I've gotten an offer for 26 and 30 grand for my car. "A car is only worth what someone is whiling to pay". KBB values my car at 22 grand, which I would never sell for. I think people's lust over these cars is what drives the price so high. the IX was a one year offer, not including the SE or sometimes referred to the 9.5, but still makes no sense why they sell for what they do…
I'm keeping mine! It took my over 2yrs to find what I wanted and I have more plans for it in the future. I haven't had my thrills with it yet, and If I sold it, I'd be like so many others, I'd turn around and buy another one, ASAP!
I was shopping for a last year 8 or a 9. In my region which would include Detroit, Chicago, Indy, and Ohio the least expensive ones were around the 20k mark with most average cars being around 24k. Some parts of the East coast had cars a bit lower but not by any great amount. Private party cars were on the lower end of the price range but those were modified substantially more than the cars (at least according to the dealer ads) at the dealers.
I found a car for sale from a member on here who had just relisted his 9 for a price that was meant to move the car quickly. I jumped on it and got it for about 3k under book value and about 7k less than other similar models that I had seen lately.
If I had not found this car it's possible I would have had to settle for a car that didn't tick all the boxes that I wanted, or I would just not have an Evo at all. These cars seem to be somewhat rare in my area where it seems that everybody else and their mom drives an STi.
The deals are out there to be had if a buyer is diligent in his search and is ready to jump on a purchase.

you make it sound so unique.
My first in 2008 was a GG SSL w/ 11K miles I purchased with cat-back & intake for $27,500. Sold it a year later with 21K miles for $26,500.
In May of 2012, I picked up a TB SE w/ 25K miles & full-bolts including JDM rear & BBK turbo for $24,500. Since then, I've added 10K miles and about half the amount in total on mods. Check out my thread for more details. I plan to keep taking care of her and treating her right until the wheels fall off :-)

And trust me there are times when I feel like I should've just got an IS-F and called it a day.
But there was something about these damn cars that keeps me second guessing and jumping ship.
I'm 37, 2 kids, married for 16 years and I'd be lying if I didn't say that I have thought about buying something that was fast from the factory, had all the cool features newer cars today have, clutch wasn't squealing to bucking at me (Thanks Quartermaster), having to dodge the smog ref every year, dealing with the occasional car profiling from LEO's, having a random SES light come and driving yourself crazy to try and get rid of it because even though its not affecting performance seeing it pisses you off, having quirky issues that no one else can relate to or understand why your car is always down or at the shop, so loud your neighbours hated you or your wifes co-workers razz her about you car shaking the panes of their office windows.
All of the above is both why I hate and love my car. I suspect its why most feel the same way. There does come a point where the love affair is over and its time to let it go.......but like all love/hate relationships as time moves on you either forget why you got out in the first place or you get back in knowing what you did wrong and how to do it better the next time you get a chance.
