I just picked up a IX that threw a rod through the block... (not me)

when its all said and done im hoping to have it back together and tuned for just under 12k. Clean title, just shy of 68k on the odometer. when i got the wheels off i did notice it had been hit in front passenger side. I didnt notice though because without the tire off i couldnt tell. The gaps and everything seemed to line up perfectly. So i guess im not too concerned still. ha.

only other bad things is the driver seat has a bolster thats plastic is broken, has Evo VIII tails and wheels. Everything else looks good.

with the prices these cars are selling for, i'm half tempted to start buying dead ones and bringing them back to life (assuming i found ones with clean titles, etc).

but yes, if you bought a dead one and flipped it you could make a wad of cash.

I think the price disparity is from multiple owner cars with multiple rounds of mod-demod, which is common considering the age of the car. I suspect 1 owner cars will demand a premium more than a "stock appearing" car.
Same here, forgot to mention I'm the original owner of mine as well. Still have my window sticker too.

Evo sell themselves. Supply and demand. Blue book is fine for a Prius. Not for an Evo, and especially a IX.

I'm 50/50 on keeping mine. Its finally reliable but my turbo needed to be rebuilt so I'm just going with a 6266 and keeping it on 93. If I still feel like getting into something else next year I'll be posting it for sale. Prices are all over the map. I can't believe even with the mileage some people are still listing for 23-25k. And thats with so-so parts (replica wheels or really cheap coilovers).

Crazy.

Being the original owner is a big selling point for these cars. Only have to talk to one person about what mods were done etc. That alone would demand a premium, along with tasteful high end mods if any, no accidents, no rust and good paint.

I'm assuming you've put all of the above into it since you bought it with the blown motor, going with that angle in the past when I was tempted in selling my evo 9 WW MR edition i'd go looking at what others are selling theirs for with similiar options, during those times I was still under 29k miles currently 33k now. I was blown away to see ppl asking 25k-30k for similiar evo's with way more miles even some in the 100k miles range. You can look at KBB all you want but at the end of the day our evo's are legendary, finding an evo 8 is way easier tn finding an evo 9, finding an MR or RS edition even harder then finding an evo 9 gsr, ssl or SE edition at that. So with that being said I'd still look at what others with similiar editions are selling for but at the end of the day the price you choose to sell it for will depend on how bad you want to sell it (cheaper sells faster of course), or how long you want to wait for the right buyer who appreciates the car as much as you do (more expensive of course). I myself would love to own another evo some day but the longer I wait the harder it will be and with that being said I already know I'd be prepared to travel far to seek out the right one. For me personally I'm not against buying an evo 8 but would prefer a 9, since I have an MR I'd probably look for an RS model but wouldn't rule out a SSL, GSR, or SE edition, preferably stock but that'd be near impossible today let alone a few years from now. If modded I'd look to see what the modds were, and ask myself, do they go habd in hand/compliment eachother, quality of the mods and so forth, I'd definetly avoid a foolish mod such as a way oversized turbo with a stock bottom end for example. So for yourself, asking 25k granted the mods listed above are all in working order, may seem reasonable for some and rediculous to others, hopefully this helps you out.

Yeah when I looked on the car sale forum it looked like some people were asking for 23-25k with similar mods but knock off wheels or crappy coilovers. Motor build was about the only thing that was close. Most of these were higher mileage.

The MR is not rare. There were more MR's (about 4400) than the GSR+SE+SSL+RS (about 4000 total). The SE/RS are the rarest ones.

It's a good thing! There are many MR to choose from which is the preferred model.
