Evo 8 whine

Evo 8 has a VERY slight whine at low RPMS throughout all the gears. It just started doing it recently, don't know what caused it or anything nothing has really changed.

I don't think its the tcase whining because its so faint and people have said that is loud as ****.

Any ideas fellas??

Does it sound like it's coming from the engine bay (like your belt)? I'm pretty sure all evos have some type of whine that's normal.

yes it sort of does, it also does it when im sitting in neutral and i press the throttle a little bit so it might just be a belt.

If you were in neutral and heard the whine by getting gas then it's just the belt. Mine does it also. If it was the transfer case it would whine louder at higher RPMS and ONLY when in gear (obviously lol).

Sounds like the accessories belt. Make sure tension on the belt is tight enough. It is not the transfer case if it is doing it in nuetral at a dead stop and would definitely be something associated with the engine.

Side note, transfer case whine can become loud, which most videos of it show, but it also starts faint like anything and becomes worse over time the more you drive on it. It's not just insanely loud off the bat.

sounds like the tensioner, better hope it is the accessory belt one and not the timing belt tensioner.

Balancer pulley, or one of the several pulleys in the line. Probly not the cam gears. Start car, open hood, pull throttle cable slightly, and listen by harmonic balancer, tensioner, and alternator pulley. I bet it's one of those.
