silly questions RE: Fuel tank mileage
Yeah, same here. Going around the city, I'll usually average 18-20 mpg (with little to no highway), while on the highway, I can usually get 24-26 mpg, though my total average to date is something like 21.7 mpg.

The fuel tank isn't a square and the sender sweep isnt linear nor is the scale on the gauge.
90 mls to 3/4
160 mls to 1/2
200 at 1/4
250-260 to light.
Mixed driving so 21-22mpg

I've been getting 200 miles in 12.5 gallons all winter. I was doing 250-275 in 12.5 gallons during the summer. So I'm guessing the 10 degree or less weather and having to warming up my car longer are destroying my mileage.
But I get to 120-130 miles at the half way mark, and 200 when the light comes on. If I ran it past the light to empty I could probably hit 240. I'd say my gauge works pretty good

Yea my mileage takes a dive during winter as well. Winter blend of fuel is partly to blame, as is the increased idling as you mentioned. I get 16-17 dd'ing in winter while I'm around 19-20mpg in summer.
