headlight relays
Has anyone ever rigged an Evo's headlights to be switched using relays, so they can be run directly from the battery?
I did this ony old Nissan Patrol and it made a massive difference, but I don't know if the same trick works for an Evo and search did not help.

It's already done in modern vehicles. No need to do it on the evo as there already is a headlight relay with a short run to the headlights.
What he is talking about, is that on older vehicles where the actual light switch in the cabin runs directly to the headlights... Because of poor contacts in the headlight switch, or long runs of cable, there is such a resistance in the wire, that the lights are dim. To aleviate this, you run a SPST relay near the headlights that draws power directly from the battery with a short run of cable. The relay is then triggered by the wire coming from the headlight switch.
With the Evo as with most modern vehicles, this is already done. The relay is in the fuse box under the hood.
