2.4LR Build Questions.

(Updated 12/18/14)

I spun a balance shaft bearing and need to pull the engine. So, I figured I'd do my best to do a build that I can by selling/trading my block, and using that to fund some of it. With that being said, I now plan on doing a 2.4LR build, and not a 2.1SLR Destroker that I originally intended on doing. I can't deny that the 2.4LR is perfect for a street Evo, and that's what my plans/goals are because it's my DD.

Now, I don't have plans for any major horsepower. I was making about 390bhp & 370Ft/tq and had a lot of fun with that, but I wouldn't mind making roughly 450-500 AWHP/TQ range when she's all set, and done.
(UPDATE: I ended up selling my CRBD BBK and got an HX40.)

I'll be having TSComp build, and tune this engine.
(UPDATE:I am building the engine w/ guidance/assistance from Tom, but Tom will still be tuning it.)

I was just looking for your guys' opinions/advice on the parts for the build that I'm using. I plan on going with the following:

4G64 Block w/ Evo 9 Mivec Head:

*Shortblock*
-100mm OEM Micropolished Crank
-156mm Manley H Beam Rods
-87mm Manley Platinum Pistons 9.0:1 CR
-ACL Race Bearings
-ARP Mains Bolts
-ARP 2000 Rod Bolts
-ARP Head Studs (STD)
-JE ProSeal HG
-OEM Stubby Shaft (BSE)
-New OEM Front Case
-Buschur Racing Modded Oil Pan (added 12/18/14)

*Head* (Evo 9 Mivec Non-ported)
-Kelford Evo 9 272/272 Cams
-GSC 5041 Springs & Titanium Retainers
-Kiggly HLA
-OEM Valve Stem Seals
-Stock Valves
-Stock Lifters

*Fuel*
-RC 1000cc Injectors
-Walbro 255 (modded/rewired) LPH pump
-Stock Fuel Rail
-93 Octane

*Turbo/Bolt-On's*
-Injen UICP
-ETS LICP
-Treadstone (added 12/18/14)
-Invidia N1 CBE (no cat)
-GT35r (added 12/18/14)
-Tial 44mm External Wastegate (added 12/18/14)
-Ceramic Coated XS Power T3 manifold (added 12/18/14)
-Turbo Smart BOV
-Turbo Smart MBC

*Still Need*
-Airbags
-Seat Belts

Eventually, I'd like to replace the stock FMIC again (AGP got trashed in my accident), have port work done all around, add a Kiggly HLA + Spoolinup COP, convert to Speed Density, and run E-85.
(UPDATE: After talking with Tom I've decided to go with a SD tune w/ bigger injectors and pump. I'll eventually be getting a new FMIC after I get the car running due to the hx40)

Also If you guys have anything to add please feel free as this is my first major build.

Thanks,
Mike

Why not just do full 2.4 4g64 ? If you're not drag racing you don't really need all the extra rpm and can have way more torque

@d-bo I was torn between going 2.4 or 2.1. I know that there's A LOT of positives about 2.4's especially for a daily driven Evo but I just wanted to be a little different. Plus the guy that's helping me just built his 2.4 and really wants to build a 2.1LR. So it's like a win-win.

@Carbonlution From what I read it isn't too hard to get the 2.4 std/LR up in the 600's especially with full port, and E-85 How long until she will be finished?

Yea I have been looking at 2.1 4g64 or 2.2 4g64 for a while. Lots of benefits for both over 4g63.
I really like the 2.2. More torque and same RR as 2.0 LR

I prefer the 2.1 to the 2.4 all day. I'd rather have less torque and more peak power to avoid breaking shot down low in the power band, plus in my opinion the high revs match the big turbos well. However, some people just don't like revving the shot out of their cars.

@d-bo- The 2.2LR Destroker sounds like a win-win. Same rod length and the 2.1LR with the added displacement of the crank + a better R/S ratio than the stock 4G63.

@Jsiebert- You make a great point about torque. I mean don't get me wrong I'd love to have the added torque in off boost DD'ing, etc but I really don't mind the whole "need to be in the right gear to have power" because, well I love to downshift lol.

I myself have a 4g64 2.4LR thats making 441hp/480tq to the wheels on a stock 9 turbo. And let me tell you. Torque is fun, however, the stock turbo is just obviously out-lunged by the added displacement. Another thing I want to add, BC of the piston design of the manleys, it is ABSOLUTELY worth getting an HD pin provision. Another thing, make sure you get the straight beam design rods, this will help you out with clearancing quite a bit.

@LOLZFWD- Those are some real good numbers, and makes it tempting to do the 2.4LR instead (Good thing I'm only 23, and plan on keeping the car FOREVER) but I was going to keep the HD pin provision because $150 bucks is cheap assurance. I'll link the exact parts on plan on going with in the original post if you'd like to take a look.

@LOLZFWD- I definitely will keep this updated. I should probably make a build thread eventually.

I think the compression of the pistons for the motor is going to be really low. Like 7.7:1 or something. I've been doing research on these motors. You need to order some custom ones. But they're only like 40 bucks more

Yea you can order custom wisecos. Or maybe any piston. But I think they need to be custom otherwise the compression ratio ends up being way too low because of the taller deck
