April 2004 Automobile Magazine...Nine Month Report
"While the rest of the Four Seasons fleet ferried the editorial staff to Grandmother's house and other Chrismastime designations, our Evo sat at the dealership waiting for parts to fix its grinding fifth gear." I know that Mitsubishi does not like to issue recalls, but a little bit of publicity like this may spern them on. I am having some shifting issues along with several others. I have used Redline MT-90, Redline Lightweight Shockproof, and now GM Syncromesh. The Syncromesh is the best so far, but all is not right in the bowels of my transmission. Even for the modified cars I do not see how Mitsubishi can deny warranty claims for these problems, the syncro's do not carry a load that would be effected by power, the just match shaft speed during shifts. I do not think 1000 hp would make a difference to the syncros as long as the driver is using the clutch. This should be interesting to see how the grinding issue's pan out, they sure as hell did not tell a national car magazine that it was not covered under warranty. The observation by Automobile Magazine could go a long way towards people getting their issue resolved as it is publicised by a medium which should be impartial, if not kind to the automakers, and their car is not modified. So if it happens to a car which is stock then it will happen to a car whether it be modified or not right? I will bring the article along with a copy of the TSB when I take mine in. Does anyone have a link to print off the TSB without having to pay tp look at the TSB page?

This is excellent. I really hope they issue a recall on these. It seems to me that a rather large batch of 2k3 US Evo 5 speed transmissions have been replaced and that it is not an abuse issue by any stretch of the stealerships imagination. I will insist on test driving the car first to make sure that mine is not showing any symptoms.
What should I look for and how should I drive the car in order to determin this?
Thanx

Yea, I do not know if not being able to shift the car into another gear when you want to is a safety issue or not, but I have seen some far fetched recalls. Maybe if I could not accelerate properly as the 18 wheeler was barreling up behind me while leaving a traffic light..........
Mandatory or get sued recalls are. Some just have to do with a defect in either design or build that is affecting a large percentage of a particular car. I think companies try to not issue a recall because it is more expensive and they are not forced to since it isn't a safety/emission issue.
