Snapped exhaust manifold heat shield bolt

Want to drill out a bolt with a snapped head. What I need to know first though is if these heat shield bolts go anywhere (i.e., am I going to have an exhaust leak if I drill the snapped bolt out and can't immediately replace it).

Thanks!

The holes are not through to the runners. Just don't drill too far lol.

When I bought my Evo and opened the hood, I had found that I had a broken shield bolt too. I bought a used manifold for $140 I think. I don't feel like drilling it out.

You could spray it with PB blaster, then use a center punch and stamp a nice little puncture in it, then use an impact wrench and a easy out bolt extractor drill bit to get it out. Just be patient and don't try to go too fast. Or you could just go and buy a used manifold if you don't wanna go through the hassle. Out of curiousity which bolt was it, one of the top three bolts or the single front bolt?!

Top left. My initial thought was lots of PB, and very small drill bits. I've had success in the past slowly getting bolts to spin themselves out without ruining the threads. I honestly don't care that much about being one bolt down, but the manifold is rattling, and it's annoying.

Sounds like a good excuse to get a nice ported and coated manifold to me.

Ha. While normally I subscribe to this reasoning, research suggests there aren't huge gains here for the price. I'd rather put the money towards a new turbo down the road.

While we're on the subject, where can I find OEM shield bolts? I don't wanna use bulk ones from Home Depot.

The dealer I'm sure. I like my $2 Ace Hardware bolts just fine.

Does it help knowing it's the oem ones that snapped?

Haha that does completely change my perspective...wasn't trying to be disrespectful. Just seemed all too fitting given the original post, I assumed you had snapped your Ace bolt
