Play in rear wheels

Hi all

I've got an issue I was hoping to get some help with.
For my WOF (Warrant of Fitness, 6 monthly vehicle compliance check for you Americans free from this burden) my mechanic noticed play in the rear wheels. It's a very small amount, probably 2-5 mm in the B L and 5-10 mm in the B R. This play is when you hold the bottom of the wheel and pull out. No play side to side.

My reading so far has got me looking at the ball joints associated with the suspension system. In saying that I am a bit stuck so far as the 6 (any maybe other models?) has 3 ball joints on the hub. Eye ball check seems OK but it does sound like the noise is coming from higher up.

Before I start replacing things I'd like to get some more opinions on things to check and test to nail the issue here.

Front seem fine. I would say i'm car-literate but no mechanic.

Your rear wheel bearings may be worn if you're not seeing play in anything else.

Your mechanic could tell there was play but couldn't figure out why? Might be time for a new mechanic.

Also, bearings, ball joints, etc etc

The cost of the WOF is just for the WOF, he'd have to charge me if he was going to start diagnosing things and I'd rather figure it out/fix it myself for the experience.

Got a 2nd pair of eyes and ears on it and managed to track down where the movement is coming from (see below), can somebody tell me the name of the suspension component as well as if you think mitis would stock these bushings or if I should be looking after market (anybody got any part numbers?)

Any her behind for anybody interested

Looks like a lower control arm. Can you get a picture from the other side? I think I see another arm behind it, might be a camber arm.

Has 3 mounting points. On the car, to the bottom of the suspension and onto the hub of the wheel if that helps?

Those arms are called rear lower control arms. Both the inner and outter bushings are spherical bushings so it is possible that your bushings are shot.

Mitsubishi should still stock these so here are the part numbers. Just press the old ones out and put in new ones. Exact same part numbers as the Evo 7-9.
