Picking up my new evo

Hey all, I am going to pick up my evo soon, and i would like to do an oil change right as i get it. I know normal oil is 10w-30, but the car has an apexi rx6 turbo and i was wondering if i should use a different grade oil or stick with the same one, my friend was recommending 0w-40?. I live in WA if that helps.

Thank you for all your help guys.

I just bought my Evo few months back, i have been looking for a good oil and filter. After much research I'm going to try Amsoil Zrod 10w30 and Filter!

Go ahead and throw your money away with that over priced crap. I have never used anything but the synthetic stuff you can get at walmart and for the most part fram filters, save for when someone gave me a factory one. Oh and it's 10-40 oil FWIW also.

I have 120K miles and it doesn't use a drop of oil between changes.

I guess if that makes your day more power to you. I just don't see wasting the money.

IDK How much AMS Oil cost in your state but I used to use Full Synthetic mobil 1 and paid like 30.00 bucks + taxes at wal mart for 5 qt. AMS Oil literally costs me maybe $10 more TOPS for 10-40. I don't really ever notice a $10.00 "waste of money" with things like this. Then again, Idk how much your getting your oil for.

for OP.. Just tried AMS oil once and I love it and will continue using it.. Also was recomended by my mechanic. Goodluck!

There is a undercurrent of dislike for Amsoil because of their business model there tends to be a bunch of people that push their products hard here.

That being said I used to use ENEOS since i could get it for the same price as Amsoil.....since I moved I pretty much use only that. Its only a few bux more then the off the shelf stuff........So I don't mind.

Amsoil has been cheaper for me... and did some magic in my transmission getting rid of a third shift grind. I would just go with the normal oil.

I used the Valvoline VR1 10W30 because of the price, always seemed to be readily available, and the FP oil list indicated that it had a high zinc content as explained by FP (posted below, just in case some haven't seen it).

I also have the Power Enterprises turbo kit using the same Rx6 turbo, but have not installed it yet. Could you post, or PM me with any dyno sheets, or info that the previous owner may have on this rare turbo? I would also be interested in your daily driving impressions of it as well.

I know English Racing recommends Brad Penn for those turbos. May want to check that oil out. I had them put it in, but I'm on stock turbos so went back to Mobil-1, which doesn't really help you. If all else fails, I'd go off of the previous posters forcedperformance oil list. They have it down, zinc content is very important.
