1st gear + Low RPM = jerky / bumpy
1st gear + Low RPM = jerky / bumpy
Hi guys,
I guess this has been happening from day 1 but i hadn't really took note until recently.
Say, in a parking lot; in first gear, under 2000 - 3000rpm. The car feels jerky until the rpms increase over about 2,500 - 3,000rpm.
Its kinda embarrassing also.
The cars details are as follows:
2007 AUDM EVO IX with 32,500 Miles on 98RON (93 octane in US) approx 315whp
Stock; turbo, cams & coils.
Aftermarket; ECU & full bolt-ons
Clutch; unknown, possibly still stock.
Ive only driven the car approx 1,860 miles since owner ship this year, so i can't really recall whether the car was like this when it was quieter (without exhaust) or after a Dyno tune.
(the dyno tune wasn't the best, as i believe there is cold starting issues on 93oct, poor economy, back fires on some gear changes & radiator fan doesn't come up till late.)
I have read some cars do this due to the way the transmission is set up/designed.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

I've had that same issue with nearly every manual transmission car I've owned. They have all been modified performance cars except one, which was a Saturn.
Anyway... if you're rolling in 1st at low RPM, low MPH, clutch disengaged, and you tap the throttle, the car will jerk and lurch. If if you're rolling in 1st at low RPM, low MPH, clutch disengaged, and you clutch in, tap the throttle and then release the clutch like a normal shift, the issue goes away, correct?

I had this issue and it was very violent jerking at low rpms. The symptoms went away when I switched back to a stock ix bov( had greddy RS). It still happens just not as often and not as violently.
I drove in a buddies evo w speed density and his car had no problems with rpms dropping or jerking. I wil be going speed density after I figure what is wrong w my evo.

i dunno about 'violently'…

well I've got a Mazda 121 daily in manual, and this thing doesn't do it at all! lol

mine only does that when nearing time to change out plugs. also when driving it cold it does this for me as well. when its all warmed up, its good to go with no jerkyness. i heard a COP kit helps with this.
Yeah ill be getting a coil kit.
Yeah seems like a few people on here have confirmed that this is the case and is normal.
