Boost Leak Test #failing

06 MR

FP HTA3586 .82
GSC s3

Problem:
-pressure through engine to do boost leak test does not build pressure high enough to find leaks (will not go over 5psi).
-The cold side of turbo leaks, air is coming out of exhaust.

Tried:
-Engine at TDC, plugged the MBC, Valve Cover[right side]
-engine to running temp
- Video of area leaking from turbo.

Resolution:
-Any one have suggestions for resolution?

Valves aren't fully shut. Engine doesn't need to be at TDC for boost leak test; just valves to be shut.

Also pull oil cap off and make sure the PCV valve also works. If you hear air rushing from the pcv valve inside the valve cover that would also be a boost leak.

i remember someone had a similar problem and they eventually contacted FP

i just searched for that thread and your in there too, so you've been having this problem for like 2 years now :-(

this is a completely new turbo. i never fixed the problem on the last one either. i was told it doesn't make a difference in terms of making boost, only when doing boost leak town test

I am having the same exact problem. I cannot build pressure past 10 psi do to a major leak. It's leaking through my valve cover, and dip stick if removed. It's not the pcv valve. I still don't know where it's leaking from. I am guessing through my valves. I did compression test, and got like 125, 96, 105, 135. I don't know if it's related.

Search for the thread by Ted B about the seal on these turbos. He had to crack the cold side open, reclock it, and then reseal it.

is there a particular post # that explains this? I've skimmed through that thread originally to do the boost leak test, but didn't see anything related to my issue.

Then go start measuring! LOL. I suspect you are letting out more than 1 CFM if you can't seem to pressureize the whole system.

as soon as you hit the air to the nipple i hear the compressor come on...
Is it a small tank or no tank model?

if so, i wouldnt think it would pump enough cfm to build pressure

how can i measure the amount of air. i heard that because of my cams not being aligned at the right spot is also causing it to not build pressure. but I've tried to move the around
