intake weatherstripping
After I noticed this, I searched and found that a few people had brought it up in other threads, but there wasn't really a discussion. If there is a thread, kindly post the link to thread and turn your nose up.
Since the car was new, I was disappointed the drivability. I tried a few different things but it still seemed like the car was struggling to make power. At high rpm, during acceleration, it would feel like the car was starving for fuel and the rpm would slow and not climb as fast as it did around 4k. I checked for fuel cut and boost leak, but no success. Also sometimes when letting off the throttle, the rpm would drop more quickly, so when i pressed the gas again, it would buck forward as the clutch catches. It made for very difficult driving. I thought that's just how turbo cars were.
I was cleaning my air filter and checking out the hood when i noticed the weatherstripping over the front cross-member went all the way across and didn't allow an opening for the intake. When I closed it the hood, I could see it completely blocked off the intake opening, so the intake has to pull air from above the radiator. I cut a length of the weatherstripping off to clear the path of air, and all of the drive-ability issues are gone. It has noticeably more power at high rpm, and low rpm driving is greatly improved. The rpms don't dip below 800 and stutter when I stop in hot weather either. My car has been starving for air for 9 years now.
